Any one out there know what a good price for Rotella in 5 gallon containers cost. Auto parts store nearby said 38 bucks a can. Any suggestions? Got 3 diesels now and got to economize.

Try a Shell distributor for prices on larger quantities. You have enough rigs to buy in 55 ga drums for a big price break. Don't know about Rotella but I bought a 55 of Delo 400 in Sept, $238 ($4. 32/ga). For some reason Chevron only changes bulk oil prices twice a year, it doesn't follow crude prices. This doesn't include a one time drum deposit. You will also need a $30 pump and a place to keep the drum out of the weather. Chevron recommends that Delo be used within one year to avoid additive fallout, I imagine Rotella is the same.

You could always just flip it on it's side with a 3/4" ball valve, and a 2" vent line.

It'll save ya $30. 00?:D

Illflem, I remember about the fallout in a previous thread and I do have a place to store it inside to save the 30 bucks= 2 extra cases of beer right off the bat plus the savings on the oil ( oh man I'm getting excited now) means this is a no brainer!:D

Forgot to mention that you will need a way to get the drum off your truck, but you have a loader. Dropping the drum off the tailgate is a no-no, they won't give you your deposit back if the drum is dented. I've heard that some Costco's sell oil by the drum, never checked the price though. Reason I don't store drums on their side and use a pump is because of bad luck with slow, expensive leaks. Also on some larger pieces of equipment I can pump the oil though a hose into the tank. My pump is very accurate, one stroke=one pint.

55 gal drum Rotella

I was at Sam's club the other day and they had a 55 gallon drum of Rotella I believe it was around $230. 00 . You may want to check it out. ;)

Had a bad experience a work some 15 years ago dropping one off the back of a truck and it was ugly. But Patriot there is a thread sealer made by locktite (believe it's blue) that is for hydraulics and oil fittings but you have to let it set up before you use it. 230 bucks is alot better than 38 for 5 gallons. :(
