After being recently serviced my 1999 truck is now "leaking" oil... the level is within the acceptable level and the people who did the service claim the truck is "designed" to drain off the excess. They claim the 2000 and newer trucks have a "oil recovery system" which is drained during oil changes but the 1999 can just "spit" this excess on the ground... however for $120. i can buy this system... am i just being taken??? i cant imagine the EPA going along with that type design...

It's total BS. The blowby tube on older rigs allowed oil to spit out if the engine was run at a severe angle, didn't matter if it was overfull or not. That problem was addressed on newer rigs, seems like $120 would cover the mod, at least they got that right.

I agree with Illflem. Clean off the engine good, get it hot without driving it too much(the air flow around the engine when driving can blow the oil all over). Leave it running and CAREFULLY look around and underneath. Check the oil filter (engine off) to make sure that it is tight. They might of slopped oil when they took off your old filter and it is migrating down then dripping. Most Quick lube places use in-experienced teenagers to work on your valuable investment.

Good luck, Chris

Oil recovery unit:confused: They can't be talking about the blow by bottle in the front (Asprin Bottle) could they:p Well I guess the blow by bottle could be considered an oil recovery unit:-laf My truck will push oil out if I exceed 17 Deg down angle on the front. Were they willing to show you this magical recovery unit that they want $120 for. I think the prior advice of doing a real good detailed clean of the engine and then watching where it comes from would be in order before doing anything else. :)
