Hi fellas, I just got my second oil sample results back from blackstone. Everything looked good accept for the viscosity. They said it was high but wear metals didn't look bad so they weren't worried about it. Without fuel or coolant contamination or high wear metals, what would cause the viscosity to be higher? Oh, the TBN looked good too. Plenty of additive left.

Where Do You Send Out Oil Sample's To ? I Would Like If Someone Let Me Know Where I Could Send My Oil And Have It Checked Out , Get Back To Me Please .

Soot thickens oil. What percentage of soot/solids does your report say it has?

How many miles were on the oil, and what kind of oil?

Vaughn, I had 9K on the oil. I'm using AMSOIL 15W-40. The sample was tested by blackstone and 0. 5% was the insolubles in the oil. By all purposes, the sample looked fine. They said Iron was a little high but that was to be expected with the amount of miles on the oil. Blackstone pretty much said higher miles=higher iron. What confuses me a little is if the sample looks good in all aspects of the sample, what would cause the viscosity to increase?

I ran several concurrent samples easing up on the mileage with Rotella 15-40. The most I ever ran was 18,488 miles and the viscosity was 80. 4 and insolubles were . 3 ... ... ... ... ... . iron was 45.

I had 2 samples done @ around 9,800 and the iron was 20 & 26.

What did the Viscosity read, and how many miles was on the oil when the sample was taken? What brand of oil was it as well.
