Smoke smells like diesel. Not that I have the best sense of smell but that is what registers. Because it is intermitent I belive it has to be the problem. Nothing else on the list of problems can heal itself.



I no longer think the turbo could have caused the problem... . the Edge however???? I think my high mileage injectors got a shock!!!
 
I didn't realize the edge was also new, yeah I can see high milage injectors giving up the ghost when suddenly confronted with extra pressure. Injector problems are a real bear to diagnose. I had a problem with maintaining rail pressure awhile back, Star replaced one that failed the return flow test and said the rest were fine (before anyone flames me the dealer knew of all mods, what they tell star is not my concern) this did not fix the problem. I bought a used set of injectors, bodies and tips, installed them and problem fixed. Mind you I had no rough idle, funny knocks, hard starts or smoke problems only the low rail pressure, lower than normal power and high egt. If I didn't have a rail pressure and egt guages I may have been hard pressed to notice the problem.
