getting ready to take my first oil sample since going to synthetics and extended drain intervals. It will be at 5K on the oil. I have a by pass filter and need to know if my sample should be taken before or after the oil goes through the by pass or does it not matter.
My thinking is that if I take it after the by pass the numbers may be skewed to show that the oil is in better shape than it really is and where it really counts, in the engine.
I could either use the by pass return line, in the filler cap to drawn my sample or use a sample pump to pump from the pan.
I may take two samples, one before and one after the filter and see how they compare, or whould this be a waste of money and time?
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Also where do you take your samples from? How? and Why?
Thanks
