Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) oil sensor location 96'

my oil pressure guage is starting to act goofy. fluctuating between 45lbs. to zero when i get on the right pedal. (at idle or at go) picked up a new sensor at my dodge dealer for 54$. they could not tell me where it is located. Any with help would be most thankful to. j. c.

thanks for the tipp. i know what i'll be doing sat. morning. i've heard there are 2 different wrensh sizes 1 1/8" or 1 1/16th" any ideas?

It takes a special oil pressure socket same as cars have been for years. The corners are rounded not like the std hex sockets.

On my '01, I used a 32mm to remove the factory sensor. I think that may be the same as 1 1/4"... . it was just what I had on hand since all my real tools were at work. I used a 1 1/16" to install the new sensor. Both were standard 6 point deep sockets. My sensor was on the driver's side of the block, just above and forward of the starter. Oil did not come rushing out when I pulled the old sensor.

A word of caution. If there is a brass thread adapter between the block and the sensor, be sure to install the adapter into the block first, then install the sensor. The brass fitting will split fairly easily.

On a '96, it is just at the rear of the P/S pump.

I've replaced my sending unit several times in the last few years, reads zero right now. I believe tha I have trouble with the guage as new units work for awhile then flucuate and quit entirley. I know the motor is ok as it still runs. Stormy

Mine had the same symptoms except that I was reading oil psi on my attitude monitor. The factory gauge would default to 40psi. How pointless is that? My question is are you using the updated sender? For my application, the p/n of the sender changed several times before it got to the latest and greatest.
