Oil Smell

Is it normal on a new truck to get an oil burning smell when coming to a stop and while stopped?? The smell goes away when starting back up.

I had the same question on my brand new truck.

Best bet is to remove/relocate puke bottle from behind fan on front of block with a length of 3/4 in hose.

The fan blows the crankcase vapor thruout the
engine compartment and into cab.

After about 500 miles on the oil, the smell isn't as noticeable.

If you do a search in the archives, there has been quite a bit of discussion on this topic. (oil smell)

I have found Rotella to be the worst offender! But like mentioned above, it will go away after 500 miles or so. A new engine will have different odors from the coating that Cummins puts on it, that will bake off in time.
