2004.5 transmission/Warranty Question

mileage question

I went to get something out of my bed today over at my buddies house that is having idle down issues with his rig. See 911 help section Anyway,I noticed I have fresh oil droplets on my tailgate. My first thought was my transmission is finally given up and is leaking fluid since I hurt it even more towing him and his rig back. After crawling around I've not located any leaks other then a wet vent pipe. I thought I noticed burning oil smell at slow speeds or when accelerating back up to speed while towing.

With a tad over 100K miles,am I right thinking the filter inside the valve cover needs replacing and is causing some blow by? Or can it be cleaned. I can't think of another reason for oil drops on the tailgate.

Am I overlooking anything?(besides my buddy owing me fresh Moose meat for the tow)

Check your oil level. If it is overfull then you could have a bad injector that is leaking. It will do internal damage if not addressed right away (injector).

The oil level is fine, its not making oil. I'm do for a change,my analysis will let me know if I'm getting anything unusual. Wouldn't a bad injector show other signs as being bad? Truck runs great, starts great and idles smooth. No white or black smoke. I thought I read some where that if the engine was producing extra blow by, to clean or replace the filter in the valve cover?

The device in the valve cover is nothing more than a separator that returns liquid oil to the crankcase, similar to what Mercedes used 30 years ago. I would check to see if that Volant intake has left you with a dusted engine.

to clean or replace the filter in the valve cover?

It's been discussed on here fairly recently, take it apart and clean it.

Sure you don't have a leaking front crank seal. Same thing on mine and its a leak on the front. I hate changing crank seals.
