Where is the best spot to mount the oil temp sensor? I know it is the pan that is the best, but I really hate to remove it for welding and drilling. Is there anywhere else that would work as well?

Also, as I am running a Amsoil bypass filter setup, would it be OK to install the sensor in the free port of the bypass filter housing, or will the three feet of hose already have cooled the oil enough to fudge my readings?

Thanks!

Robert

i uses a 1/4 NPT brass T fitting and adapters off the filter housing port. it gets the oil temp on its way to the bypass filter. . works well!

How accurate will it still be though? Will some of the heat have not already dissapated because of the T?

Robert

But what is your goal?

1) To know the exact temperature of the hottest drop of oil?

2) Or to use a warning tool of a problem?

If your goal is 2 then anyplace should work. Establish a "norm" and monitor for a change.

If it's 1 probably the pan but 2 should be the goal I would think.

The oil is going to hold the heat pretty well and loose very little to the piping if it is flowing. The closer you can get the probe to flowing oil after it has been pressurized will give the hottest temps possible. If you put it too far away it won't be measure as accurately. :)
