i need help figuring out y my truck as started blackening oil so quick. up untill resetly i could go easly go 3000 miles without the oil darkening at all. but ever since i upgraded my injectors the oil goes black withing 5miles of an oil change and i meen black, to the point that u can no longer see the writing on the dipstick anylonger. the injectors i installed are F1 m2. 5's. i understian the langer injects meen more soot, but pitch black oil within 5 miles seems a bit much if u ask me. the oil that i am runing is amsoil 5w 30. what could be causing this, could it be a bad injectior or somthing?

When you start adding fuel and pushing things harder your oil will blacken much faster. Mine does it too and with relatively small injectors.

Mine has always done that. It's normal. Additives in the oil help keep the soot suspended. I even have a bypass and I see exceptionally dark oil. Former member Gary has an excellent thread on frantz bypass systems. He had larger injectors (mach 1. 6's i think) and his oil was still nice and clean. He swore by it and had the analysis results to back it up.

If you're truly concerned about it try doing some periodic oil analysis during your next few changes and see how the numbers look. I have Mach 2's with an amsoil single bypass, I run 7500 miles between changes on valvoline premium blue with no ill effects. I push the mileage out to help save some coin and my analysis numbers stayed in line the first 3 times. I quit analyzing now and just continue on with my 'somewhat' proven numbers. I may analyze again around 100k just to make sure there isn't increased wear numbers, I'm satisifed and that's all that really matters to me.

The newer CR trucks are supposedly cleaner on the oil, I have no experience with this just what I've read on here.

dont sweat it 5256, it happens to everyone that does injector upgrades, ive got diesel dynamics mega mental 175 hp injectors, its the nature of the beast, oil analysis is a good idea just as Rman has said, that will give you peace of mind and let you know whats up with your powerplant... . enjoy your new upgrades!!!!! Jeremy

What if the truck has stock injectors??? The tuner I have made no difference on how quick the oil went black but I recently switched from Baldwin oil filters to Fleetguard Strato-pore and the difference is noticiable even at 3000 miles. . Any ideas??

DManey, did you use baldwin then switched to Fleetgaurd, and now your oil is getting dark quickly? i use baldwin and rottella t with a quart of Lucas, yep and my oil gets dark quickly. the first bomb i put on the truck was a Drag Comp box, the oil started to get dark and then injectors was the kicker. more fuel more soot in oil..... jeremy

When I went to 370's on my truck, the oil got black faster than (stock) before.

I have a Frantz. I've sent out samples and they were fine. I'm not worried.

Dark oil too soon

I was getting black oil too soon until I descovered that my wastegate was opening too soon. I fixed the wastegate problem and the oil stays cleaner now. This tells me that with more air the engine burns cleaner. more air equals cleaner burn and more power from the fuel also less smoke. Does all of this make sense? I'm no expert so I'm open for comments.
