The manual states NOT to use synthetic oil in the first 20,000 miles. You need to find a new dealer for service.

Where in your manual does it say that?

wow, and I thought the debate between the automatic and 6-speed was controversial!

You will soon see that the oil wars will make the transmission wars look loving.

The Amsoil guys really like their product and will defend it to the death :-{}

Interesting post on the Valvoline Blue. I have been using Delo 400 (from Costco) without any problems.

..... Synthetic oil has a tendency to brake down if you don't run the engine everyday. When that happens the additives separate and the oil doesn't perform as it should. The additives will not mix back in until the oil gets to normal operating temperature. This is bad for drivers who let their truck sit a lot and only drive short distances... .

I got this information from a visit to one of my customers. They make a pretty good synthetic too, Mobil1. Based on the information from a majority of diesel guys I would choose DELO for a synthetic first, then Mobil1 and then maybe Amsoil.

Anyway, I was doing some research on oils for diesels when I made a sales call to the guys at ExxoMobil. I see marketing info all the time. Marketing info is usually a spin on the real data. I prefer to do the research to find out the real truth. So, I was talking to one of the tech geeks there about my new truck. We started talking oil and he walked me down to the lab to talk to an engineer. They really tried to sell me on Mobil1. I got the whole speach about their superior refining processes, etc...

I had already committed to trying this Monolec 8888(Monolec 8800 for non-EGR engines) from Lubrication Engineers. I use the gear oil and ATF already. So, I gave the engine oil a try. It's made for commercial diesels engines. The guy at LE told me I really only had to change the filter from now on and add a little as necessary. Of course, if this stuff doesn't work as good or better I will switch to synthetic. The ROI for synthetics may not make sense, but I want only the best for my truck.
