Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) oil usage

I have noticed that I am using about a quart of oil every 5000 mi. is that normal for a truck that sees mostly highway miles?

What year is your truck and milage. Is there blue smoke or is it leaking it ?

What weight of oil,type? How many miles on engine? Are you the original owner?

OIL IS DELO 400 15W40. 70k miles and I am the original owner. the temp has been down around 20 deg for the low and 40 for the high. No blue smoke to speak of. engine is an Ho. if that makes any difference. Starts easy even in cold weather. Does not seem to be leaking much. A little bit damp around the oil pan gasket. other than that nothing unusual. Some one once told me that if the engine isn't losing a little bit of oil it isn't working right. I just don't know what they define as a little bit.

I probably use around a quart in 6000 miles, probably a little less. I have 94K miles. Out here in CA and I run the gammet on temperatures. My usage doesn't seem to change with load or speed.
