Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) OIl Usage

Under normal driving my truck uses about 2 qts. of oil every 3000 miles. Last weekend I pulled my stock trailer (empty) and in about a 100 miles it burned up 3 qts. of oil. All my gauges were normal.

My truck uses SOME oil, but not that much. I add about a quart to a quart and a half by about 5000 miles. I change at around 7500 miles. I have also started using Lucas Oil Additive, and it seems to help. I don't have any puddles or anything, so I'm not sure where it's going, I just keep an eye on it and check it a couple times a week.



Are you getting puddles or excessive smoke? Any other signs or indications?

Theres a little puddle but nothing unusual. Theres abit of grey smoke tell it warms up but thats not really unusual either. And theres some grey smoke if it idles for awhile. I did some research on who had the truck before I did. The guy did custom hauling. I think maybe he might have mixed some gas in with the diesel to make it hit harder. The reason I think this is because the motor blew (@ 184k) not long after I bought it and the trans. was all screwed up.
