I heard that in the auto repair end about Ford diesels over and over. That they used a Qt. every 1000 miles etc. Between oil changes and what they used customers told me THATS A LOT OF OIL!!

you guys ever notice (no foolin) but when ever you are near a ford or behind one on the highway, they always smell like they are burning oil, like the motor is whooped or something?

I ran my truck to 18k on Delo then switched over to Amsoil. My truck does not use any oil between filter changes. I change the full flow around every 8k and the by-pass around 25k. I finally changed my oil at 88k with 70k on the oil. I took an oil sample before I dropped the oil and more than likely it will come back like the others, "oil is suitable for continued use", but I couldn't stand it any longer.

To answer the question, my truck uses no oil between filter changes. This is a work truck that drags a large gooseneck trailer every day. Mileage is now up to 93k. Will probably top 100k by the end of the yr. or first week of 2004.

My 93W250 never went down more then 1/2 pint in 12k. In 5 k on dino none!1/2 pint was Amsoil 15w40 and NO filter changes in the middle.

Oil Usage

According to the manual on the 2003 from the the full mark to the add mark is 2 quarts. I would alot rather run a engine a little low (above the add mark that is) on oil than it to be over full. Couple of years ago had one of those quick lube places do one of my gassers, and noticed the oil pressure gauge had a different reading from normal driving back home. Checked it after about 30 minutes, an it was three inches over the full mark. Called the manager of the quick lube, and told him it was over full, and he sent a man out to my house, and changed it again with five new quarts of oil.

Neither my 94 nor my 03 CTD use oil. I think the PSD is a bit "looser" internally which could account for some more oil use in that motor. There was also a documented problem with the Heui injector seals or o-rings that let oil pass through to the combustion chamber - no visible leaks, but significant amounts of oil consumed.
