"Just wanted to point out that the mobil truck & SUV is no longer diesel rated for anything but an old old diesel and I would even use it in that. "

That statement basically says that the current oil is no longer rated. I Raised the BS flag on that statement. I apologize if your statement didn't exactly mean what you wanted it to say.

Forgive my ignorance here but CI-4 is acceptable for our trucks? The Truck and SUV oil at Walmart and my local lube shop is 5W-40W CI-4 rated. Can I use this oil? I realize it's not CI-4+. Sorry if I've missed something already stated.

Like I said before there might be some old bottles of truck & suv on the shelves and they are rated CI-4/SL which is what we are suppose to use. The new truck & suv is not diesel rated, it has a gasoline engine API stamp and is 5-30 for gas engines only and really old diesels.

Yes, as far as I know it is just renamed which by the way is just plain mobil delvac 1, 5-40

Old

mobil delvac 1, 5-40 for diesels

mobil truck & suv 5-40 for diesels

New

mobil delvac 1, 5-40 for diesels

mobil 1 turbo diesel truck 5-40 for diesels

mobil 1 truck & suv 5-30 for gas engines

Hope this helps, if not guys are on your own, someone else can explain it.

Yes! Ci-4 IS acceptable oil for your truck. It does not require CI-4+. .

If you ever have any doubt, just look in your owners manual and it tells exactly the spec oil required :)

I ran Delo 400 40 wt in my 1983 6. 9 diesel Ford. I was told not to run the Delo in my 95 7. 3 psd due to foaming. I started running Rotella-T in 1995 and run it in both my 7. 3's,my cummins, massey ferguson tractor, and john deere tractor with no problems. This cummins soots the oil first start up. I dont start seeing soot in my 7. 3's until almost 3000 miles. I get the oil out of my trucks betwenn 3000 and 4000 miles and have had no proplems. Neither of my tractors soot the oil like my cummins does. I can only guess it might have something to do with this 3rd injection event from what I'v read. sure is disappoiting to change your oil start your truck and see your new oil is already black.

MChildress,

The extra soot in the oil is the reason why the oil industry is continuously upgrading the oil packages CE, CF, CG, CH-4, CI-4, CI-4+.

If you were to run CE rated oil in your new dodge cummins or for that matter any new truck of the big three, the engines would not get as many miles out of them before they need overhauling due to the extra wear materials in the oil. The new oils help keep the wear materials apart and from forming larger wear material mostly from soot.
