Hey all.

New to diesel's and love the info.

I put a K&N oiled air filter on my new truck and want to know if that will cause problems with the air flow sensor beiing so close and or what to clean the sensor with. to keep the oil off of it.

Thx.

K&N filter's cause oil to get sucked into the turbo and thats Bad on a diesel I would go aftermarket but Not K&N for the diesel's there a NONO on a gas motor there isn't anything thats better in my book .

asking about air filters can start filter wars. Especially k&n they are claimed to be no good, however I have had one since new now have 47500kms (295000k) Truck doesnt use oil between changes at 6000k. no oil in turbo. Everyone has their own opinion on what is best. Read all the posts on filters and tests and deside. no offence intended. good luck with what ever choice you make.

there are ALOT of threads to read on how these motors will pull the oil AND gauze right into the turbo/IC , NOT GOOD! Spend money wisely and run a quality dry filter.

I have used Amsoil & K&N I have not had any failures or problems with either I also use a mopar paper on my 6. 7 no problems there either I also am no expert on this but I do have a lot of miles on the Amsoil which is an older design I also use the new Amsoil synthetic paper media style which I think may be the best way to go ,i hate washing the oilsoaked foam Amsoil old style very messy and time consuming check out the amsoil website for info on their new EA series airfilters for specs. I think the build quality of the K&N is excellent . Lots of choices ... a good thing . . I guess?

Welcome to TDR TroyWood.

I am of the opinion that K&N air filter are no good for all the reasons stated above. More importantly then that is that if something happens to you engine, your warranty could be denied. The same holds true for AFE filters, which IMO are much better. Dodge and Cummins frown on these after market filters and deny warranties all the time. The best advise I can give you is to keep your engine stock as long as you are under warranty.
