Longevity of external wastegates?

I am going to do my first oil sample soon and I am wondering how is the best way to take the sample. I am not going to be changing my oil yet so I can't get the sample from the oilpan w/o making a mess. I am going to change my oil filter at this time so can I get my sample from the oil filter? which port in the filter is the "clean" side? the threaded hole or the ring of holes? It should work taking it from the clean side of the filter right(w/o contaminating the sample)?

the inside [threaded or not in cartridge type filters] section is always the clean side... that isn't the best way to get a sample though [nor is getting one from the drain plug]... you could with a little plumbing make a sample valve location. . there is 2 threaded pluged 1/8"npt holes on top of the filter pad. if you put a hydraulic quick connect fitting on one of them, then you can snap a matching one to it, and with a length of hose to a needle valve, you can obtain a sample with the engine running to get an accurate sample. . then remove the sample valve when done

but, from the filter should work. .
