I will have to drive 545. 6 miles to see tomeygun to pick up my new ride:D So on the way home do I need to stop for an oil change? I plan on doing some sight seeing on the way back so I really dont know how many miles I will put on the new ride. If I have to change the oil... which brand do I use for the first change? I do not know if I need to use oil from dodge or is shell ok? please let me know! I have a few weeks until it is ready but I would like to be ready before that:) Garth

Whoa! This is an oil war in the making. I'll just comment on whether you need to change the oil: my 1st change was at 3000 miles. Some change as early as 1000. So, I'd say if you're going to put over 3000 miles on the truck during this trip, then plan to change the oil.

I will also say you do not need to use oil from Dodge.

You don't need to stop on the way home for an oil change. You can use any kind of oil you want as long as it meets the spec. Many of us use the Rotella or Delo that is readily available at Wall-Mart and just about any truck stop that you can think of. There have been many threads on this forum concerning oil brands and frequency of changes, if you go by the recommedations in the owners manual you will not go wrong. I would change the oil somewhere around 2500 miles or so if it were me and then again at 7500 and every 7500 after that. Enjoy your new truck.

I picked up my truck from Tomeygun and drove it home to VA and up to CT before changing my oil. The first change was at 3700mi, and was clean. I just did the second change at 7500, and it was again clean. Both times, I used Mobil Delvac 1300. I will probably wait to hit 20k before thinking about synthetic. I got my filters from Genos, the 4-2-1 kit.
