1972 Impala Custom w/400 small block-had one of those dinky 2 barrels-used about 1 quart of oil per day-only drove like 50 miles per day Serious smoking problems! Bought for $400, sold for $400.



1968 VW Squareback with Electronic Fuel Injection. Would run about 2 weeks before trip to mechanic. Most problems related to fuel injection, fuel hoses, fuel leaks... Drove 200 miles with 3 spark plugs after one popped out-very loud. Bought for $250, sold (not running) $50.

1986 Chevy S10 Blazer. Constant issues... worst part is when I traded it in, my then 5 year old daughter told the sales person that "we have to get rid of it because it is falling apart"!!.



Second worse was a 1978 Dodge 1/2 ton gasser. Could not keep front ends or trannys in it (nor gas).



Best, 1969 Camaro RS. Why did I ever sell that car!!!

But the all time winner is a 1986 Mercury Sable. From the time it was new until I traded it off at 52K miles:



* Cylinder head bolts broke and dumped coolant - replaced on recall

* 3 main bearing cap bolts broke & spit "rear" main seal out. Oil consumption was 1 quart in 1 block! - Ford covered 1/2 of my bill

* Steering column electrical harness shorted and melted - 3 times!

* Heater/AC fan motor crapped out - twice

* Electric film windshield defrost overheated & cracked windshield

* Clearcoat paint peeled off left rear fender

* Transmission started slipping in 4th as I was driving it to the dealer to pick up my new car



I'll quit now since I'm getting stressed out just remembering that POS! That car, and Ford's "too bad" attitude, are why I haven't bought a Ford product since 1990.

I can't stop laughing.

The Peugeot diesel - eegads. My neighbor bought one of those for his daughter to drive at college... ... in Grand Forks North Dakota - 30 below actual is normal in the winter. Needless to say, it sat for 6 or 7 months a year - didn't even try to use it. But the 8-6-4 Cadillac - I forgot completely about that thing - I still don't know how the hell that thing was supposed to work. Some day it will be "rare" and a collectors item.

91 GMC HD pickup

3 computers

2 transmissions- one was recall that they had to drive twice cause they did not believe me on problems and they matched recall symptoms exactly!!!!! Mechanic said he had to have trailer hooked up to duplicate and when he saw trailer was gooseneck would not drive, claimed he had to have a CDL??????

1 right side frontend

hood that would not stay latched

front differential

rear differential

receipt pile of other warranty repairs that was over 6" thick

***final straw was an alternator that froze up @less than 50K miles, took out belt tensioner. GMC refused to honor warranty because it was replaced with a chevy alternator by a chevy dealer. Out in the middle of nowhere out west with horses and trailer and no GMC dealer for 250 miles. 60 mile tow to Chevy dealer!!!!

Truck spent more time in shop than with me!!!!



Got to corner GMC execuative on plane flight from Detroit, and with a captive audience (he had window seat, I had aisle)

got to tell him what I thought when he told me that GMC stood behind their trucks and it could not have happened the way I said

Ditto on that. I had a 95 f-250 with a 7. 3 PSD. That thing dang near made me bankrupt.

That's a list of the things I can remember off the top of my head that had to be replaced in the 2 year period that I had it. Some of them more than once. I was finally blessed with totalling it. Needless to say this truck left a bitter taste in my mouth. Oh yeah, when the dual mass flywheel went out, it took out my clutch.

Only reason it was bad was because I the second owner and the dealer didn't tell me that the engine was shot because it had sat in the Languille river for a few days.

74 Corvette, money pit, bought it for for $7900 (back in 78) put another $13000 in to keep it running, then sold it when gas prices went up for $7500.



Now to make things worse, today a 74 454 convertable with all options is worth about $40,000 in Ok shape.

1975 Fiat 128 (while over in Spain) - it was mostly my fault because I did drive it like I stole it. Amazing that it's little 1. 6 4-banger would do 100 mph downhill. And that you could do an emergency brake u-turn at 45 - 50 mph. My younger and less intelligent days.



Then there was the 1990 Ford Taurus LX Wagon. This car was smooth as glass on the highway. Exceptional gas mileage. Handled like a dream & was glued to the road like the painted lines. However (comma) once that thing hit about 90,000 miles, I was afraid to take it out of the driveway. We replaced the motor mounts three or four times. The power steering pump about the same. The power steering lines. The heads. The axles. The heater core twice. It was needing a new rack & pinion system.



I traded it in on another car. Got a '99 Dodge Stratus ES for my wife. Best trade I ever made.

1995 Chevy Z71 with a 6. 5 Diesel. 41 line item repairs in 75K miles. That truck is why i will not own a GM product again.



One time that truck spent so much time in the shop that one of the shop rats (as in furry creature with a tail) took residence behind the dash. When driving home from the shop, the rat came out from under the seat, and climbed up my cell phone charger cable and into the dash... Yup... another few days at the shop to get tid of the rat and his nest behind the dash.

Without guestion or hesitation. Undoubtedly the 1988 Ford F150 4x4. A complete total nightmare. I came very close to dagging it out in the field and burning it. Sold it and started buying Dodges, nightmares over. Pete

I have never had a bad car or truck. Have only had Mopar products. Drove Slant-6 powered Darts when I was a kid. They NEVER broke down.

'92 Jeep Wrangler, Renegade package

It had a Steel Horse hard top on it. It made more wind noise than one can imagine. More electrical problems due to the factory added on fog lights. Even with them off, it kept burning up headlight switches. I sold it to a guy after owning for about 4 months. Wife refused to drive it although she had picked it out. The guy who bought it and the extended warranty called about a month later and said the rear end had blown out. The dealer told him they were voiding the waranty because it had 31x10. 50 tires. The very same tires I bought it off the lot with.

Went back to having her in Saturns and haven't looked back.

Yep, if you keep at least a little water and oil in 'em, the 170 and 225 cubic inch slant 6's were darned near bulletproof!

too funny. I had two 504's (78 gas, 79 diesel, both stick) and an 85 505 (gas turbo, also stick).



The 78 did about 240K, with new rings and d-i-y honing job (block in car w/ a handheld drill) around the 120-140K mark. The 79 got wrecked. I gave up on the 85 at about 120K when the head cracked. I even had to replace the *rims* on that car, not to mention the FI ECU, a couple alternators, radiators, water pump, turbo, countless electrical ground issues, clutch, sunroof motor, and who knows what else.



I have fond memories of them - especially the 78 - but mostly because of the who's and how's of what went went on *inside* the car.

Oh yeah as far as worst car ever I would have to say my 89 Dakota only because I was stupid and spent way too much money to buy it. Other than that my biggest POS was a 83 Chrysler Town and country wagon(with Faux wood paneling). I bought it from a friend for $600 and drove it for about 6 trouble free months,then traded it for a bunch of Toyota truck parts I needed from another friend. He went on to kill th etranny in about a months time. I really liked that car aside from the look and the seat was shot.



My best car so far would be my 83 Mazda RX-7. It is by far the best built,best running car I have ever owned,and it is so easy to work on. It has never left me stranded,or failed to start(aside from when it is below zero).



My list of cars and truck is pretty long for only driving for 12 years

86' Chevy Blazer s-10, It was my wifes car... . what a POS... at 60k, needed a valve job, then the transmission went out, then another valve job, then the transmission again! Then we tried to trade it in and all the dealers said they knew that the S-10's were POS... so didn't get jack on a trade... She then got a Toyota Camry then a Toyota 4-runner, both were superb. She now has a BMW convertable, the jury is still out on it, but so far so good.

I've had pretty good luck with my cars and trucks that I drive, although my 96' Dodge TD ram went through brakes fast and blew the transmission and rear end and it was a stock motor, but the Cummins was flawless, put almost 200k on her and she never used any oil, was economical and ran great.
