ok guys im tryin to lift my truck a real cheap way. and need to know how many inches i can go before needing longer control arms. . im either goin to buy the sky jacker d45 springs they will give me 4". or buy the 3" spacers that goes on top of the factory spring. and in the rear just put a couple of leafs in untill it levels out nice. . the other question is who out there has a lifted dually, i need to figure wheel spacers out. and tires please any input would be great. thanks guys

You'll probably have rubbing issues with big tires if you go more than 2" without the control arms. Any more than 2" and the axle starts really moving back in the wheel well.

I put the 2" Skyjacker leveling kit on my 2500. Nothing in the rear. At the time I was running 33 BFG M/Ts with no rubbing. When I needed new tires, I upgraded to 35s. I then had a rubbing issue on the outer rear portion of the front wheel wells.

This last weekend I finally got a set of DT 1/2" longer control arms installed and the rubbing problem is now gone!

What does this mean: When the vehicle goes up (with a lift), you also need to add the additional components (control arms, pitman arm, track bar, etc. . ) so the front end will keep the same geometry it was designed to have. If you don't, like I did at first, you have to run tires that look to small so they clear the wheel wells... ;)

Mickeys,

I put a mild lift kit on my 3500-new control arms came with the kit. Rear was only a leaf to add to the spring pack.

No offense, but "real cheap" usually = DEATH!

I would put together a proven "system" if I was going to go that high. Anything more than about 2"- 2-1/2" leveling kit will normally require different link arms, pitman arm, shocks, sway bay drop bracketry, track bar bracketry, and may require relocating or replacing brake lines, drive shaft or joints, or indexing the transfer case.

And at the end of all of this, you need to be able to get a proper alignment done. Not that you wouldn't do it, but some trucks cannot be properly aligned after a Frankenstein contraption suspension.

Choose wisely.

i have to agree, when ya start going the "cheap" route... . that usually means you start cutting corners which leads to other avenues... .

i got a 2" leveling kit, and bilstein shocks that are 2" longer up front and stock height in the rear.....
