Subject: CREDIT INFORMATION

Your Credit:Your Personal Credit Information goes public Starting July 1st, 2003, the four major credit bureaus in the US (Equifax, etc. ) will be allowed to release credit info, mailing addresses, phone numbers, etc. , to ANYONE who requests it.

If you do not want to be included in this release of your personal iinformation, you can call 1-888-567-8688.

Once the message starts you will want option #2 (even though option #1 refers to this email, push #2) and then option #3.

Be sure to listen closely, the first option is only for a two-year

period. Make sure you wait until they prompt for the third option, which opts you out FOREVER.

You should receive their paperwork in the mail confirming the "opting out" in less than one week after making the call.

PASS THIS MESSAGE ON TO ALL IN YOUR ADDRESS BOOK, FRIENDS

AND FAMILY.

i thought there were only 3 major credit reporting company's and that for a fee some limited info on those reports were always public record, thats how you get the ominous ''pre-approval" notices in the mail. .

p. s. i called this #, all this opt-out is for is to have your name removed from the pre-approval screening lists of financial institutions. .

Me too, I'm out now.

Great info, thanks for the heads up. It's amazing how much stuff I "opt in" for with out my even knowing about it.

My favorite way to deal with junk mail is to stuff everything in the postage paid envelope and then let them throw it away.

Hey now I like that idea. I will start doing that. I will stuff there postage paid with there own junk and mail it back... I love it!!

When you pay your bills and take care of your business and are never late it attracts all of the mail stuffers. I hate that.

No lie we came back from a three day wknd and had only 3 ligitimate pieces of mail out of 43... IS THAT CRAZY???

Thanks for the idea. Ah Hee Hee Hee, I will get them now !!!

I just called the number and they said if I am calling because of the email that has been going around with the above info, they said that info is incorrect. .

Robin

that email has been going around for a couple years now... its completely false. The number is ligit though, but the only thing it does is opt yourself out of the prescreened credit mail... it doesn't work, i did it 2 years ago and i still get junk... although not nearly as much.

Credit Bureau reporting

You can also look at www.TruthOrFiction.com

It's easy to see why the e-mail stories about credit reports being available to anyone who asks ... is false on its face.

The credit reporting agencies are in business to make a profit. They SELL their information to their subscribers, or to you. That's their business. If they had to give it away for free, they would soon go out of business, and there would be no credit reporting at all.

You can also write to the credit reporting agencies directly. They charge for their reports -- which are also available on-line -- but if you have been denied credit in the previous 60 days they have to provide you with a FREE credit report under FTC regulations. All you have to do is tell them you've been denied credit within the past 60 days. Once you have the credit report, you can write explanations about any false or inaccurate entries, and the credit reporting agencies have to update your credit report and include your written explanation, or at least a portion of it -- they will edit it for space. Make it short, concise, and don't use big words -- I've seen "situs" (location) in an explanation come out as "status" on the credit report -- an entirely different meaning.

The three agencies are:

Equifax Credit Information Services

P. O. Box 70241

Atlanta, Georgia 30374

Trans Union Consumer Relations

P. O. Box 4000

Chester, Pennsylvania 19016

Experian

P. O. Box 2103

Allen, Texas 75013.

Be sure to include all names under which you have incurred debts (maiden, married, adopted, birth parents, etc. ) and your social security number.

Really stuff it so it weight's more an a ounce. More postage due.

I called the number last week. Yesterday I got a form in the mail to fill out and return. Looks legit to me. No harm trying it.
