NVR FNSH is right. I believe anything before 99? needs the surgery after that they out fitted all the trucks with the same fenders. The surgery is minor

Thanks Tardog..

Is there that big of difference between the lighting of sport lights and standard to go to the trouble to convert? Does sound interesting.

MHO is yes. I tend to do a lot of night driving so I find it very important to see whats coming. I'm sure you could buy some decent Off Roading lights for the same price that might out performn these, but I personally like to keep the truck as clean as possible ( don't like alot of c**p hanging off of it) Others that have done the sport conversion have also been impressed and have not regretted doing it. The pattern is much better and takes a bit of adjusting to get right, but the light is clean. 4 highbeams with the possibility of 8 is great!!!!:D

this is where i got mine....

www.autobodypartswholesale.com

and YES!!!!!... ..... there is ALL the difference in the world.

not only is there a better light pattern, going from the stock 18-20 ga. wire tp 10-12 ga. gives MUCH more light. i don't feel like i'm driving with candles anymore. :D :D :D

I need to start making my relays...

Since we have 2 batteries... I'm going to make 2 relay harnesses. .

then run each headlight off it's own battery!!!!!

I need to know something... .

The SLT uses (1) 9004 bulb per headlight... .

the SPORT uses (1) 9004 and (1) 9007 per headlight...

I need to know this... ... .

on the sport does the 9004 go on the INSIDE of the assy or the outside near the side marker??

Which is the HIGH beam and which is the LOW beam??

Is the High beam the Inside section of the headlight or the OUTSIDE?????

Thanks!!!

Larry

Sport headlights

9004 lamps are inboard and 9007 outboard. I used two 30 amp relays, one from each battery. One relay controls all four high filaments. The other contrlos all four low filaments. I am using Hella 55/100 watt lamps so low beam is 220 watts and high beam is 400 watts. Ten gauge wire with 30 amp fuses. I only use high beam when moving because the lights get real hot. I think if you wired it to run all the filaments on high beam like a Bright Box you would smoke the units. The terminals are for different filaments on the 9007 so you must wire them different than 9004s. I used four new lamp sockets and rewired them using ten gauge wire. I looked for male sockets to plug into the factory wiring but I didn't find any. That is the only thing I would do different.

I am sure you will like them.

A stock Sport runs outboad low beam and in/out highbeams. The inboard lowbeam filiment is not used in the stock version but can be easily wired with the highbeams. Some others have wired the lowbeam inboard to run with the stock lowbeam but from what I understand the reflector on the inboard light is not designed for lowbeam. So you may land up blinding other drivers if it is used.

The proof is in the results.

As I said in my previous post,I am using all four filaments for low beam. If this was too bright for oncoming drivers they would certainly signal their displeasure by flashing me. This seldom happens.

It's your choice.

Source for non OEM lamps

The sport headlamps from Import Vision Motorsports at $210 a pair carry the same manufacturers part numbers as the sport headlamps from Auto Body Parts Wholesale at $279. 90 a pair. I have no doubt that they are the same item for different prices.

The lamps carry both SAE & DOT markings and come complete with Philips 9004 & 9007 bulbs. Also included are headlamp-to-grill welt and the aiming screws. To complete the install you'll need pushpins (3 per side) to attach the welt and hex screws to attach the lamp to the truck (these items most likely salvaged from the removal of the non-sport lamps), and a wiring harness. I plan to make my own harness with 12 gauge wire, relays, and four female and one male lamp socket from the bottom of this page.

I picked my new lamps up this morning at Import Vision Motorsports. Ken Brooks (ken@importvision.com) was extremely helpful. He showed me the sport head lamps and tail lamps installed on his white Ram 1500. He claims that his are wired so that all filaments light up with high beams and has no heat problems with standard wattage bulbs. I'm anxious to experience 460 watts of light to the front versus the 220 watts I have now.

Thanks for pointing me to Import Vision Motorsports Brad!

Alan---that harness will NOT work!!! 99- newer trucks run a switched ground system and these harnesses are NOT set up for that. did i email you the directions??? they aren't that bad and they are cheaper in the long run than these harnesses anyway

Alan—the link you posted and the link I posted (for sockets) is the same link—this site also sells parts to assist in making the harness, the male 9004 in particular. I'm making my own harness so I'll have total control over circuit design (the ability to have all eight headlight filaments fired together for instance), wire gauge, length, etc.

"It calls the harness a 9004 or 9007. . . " 9004 bulbs and 9007 bulbs take the same socket. The harness you were looking at can be used with 9004 or 9007 bulbs.

 A quick question if you please. Why does this system use 2 different bulbs? 9007 & 9004 might have the same plugs, but are not the locking mechanics in the base different and is that the reason for using 2 different bulbs or do we have a choice to use the same type in all 4 positions? Do I sound confused enough yet:confused:  :D :D

I've read about this conversion enough over the last 2 years to consider this a worthwhile mod. However, the PMs going around regarding how to do the wiring is leaving me (and other's watching) out of the loop. Installation of the housings seems straight forward and easy enough. How can I get in on the wiring issues? If I can get that info, I'll start gathering parts and I'll make this one of my Christmas week projects.

Thanks, guys.

jay--not meant to leave ANYONE out of the loop..... i am sorry if i have given that impression. i have 2 attachments that are much easier for me to email thru my hotmail acct than thru here.

i ask for the PM's so that no one's email is publicized.

SO... ... pm me your email addy and i will sent the instructions, Tim

mundgyver... ... from what i understand (which sometimes isn't much) the reason for the 2 different bulbs has to do with the shape of the reflectors.

Now I want Sport Lights!

I apologize for wieghing in here, a day late and a dollar short, but if I may ask the headlight experts, Whats the bottom line I need to buy to get the Sport lights working:

1. The sport headlights

2. 2 wiring harnesses.

Will that do it, or is there more (I have a 97 12V with factory fogs)?
