The only problem I have is that it reads the MAP sensor incorrectly (at least so far I have not been able to trouble shoot the problem much).

JR2, This should be due to the boost fooler connected in the system... Part of your bombs... .

No way around this... lie to the computer about what the MAP is and you can bet when you ask it what the MAP is it will lie back to you!

I wish it was the boost fooler... it will not even read the press correct at idle. Heck with the MAP sensor unplugged it reads 15 psi... ... I had a couple of posts about it a while back and it looks like the ECM reports the MAP press one way and the software is adding atmospheric press to it... at least that is my guess. It only does it on 01 trucks as my dads 98. 5 and several other 99 and 00 trucks all test fine. My buddy who has road real 4 in his truck had the same problem with the road relay till he sent it back to cummins and they "fixxed it". Its really no big deal because I have a boost sensor so I know what is going on. I was more interested in the software to remove codes and check the APPS then looking at MAP press. I also use it to check my IAT temp...

I think around '01 they changed the MAP Sensor from (or to, I don't remember which) absolute pressure to pressure above sea level. This means that, at sea level, one will tell you that the pressure is 0 (14. 5 being sea level + 0 = 0 change) and the other will tell you 14. 5 (absolute pressure, 0 + standard pressure = 14. 5).

I don't know if this made it any clearer to you, I think I just confused myself.

JR2,

I know what you mean with the software/nic compatibility. It won't even work with my Cisco of all things.

Oh well, they add new support very often. Maybe we'll get lucky, huh??

What nic does your cable buddy have with the external antenna?

99guy, Cool!! Always good to meet a fellow geek:D

Little did I know...........

Little did I know that the new laptop I just ordered was destined to become an intregal truck accessory . I totally forgot all about that , never having had a lap top before :D

No, to be honest I got side tracked and forgot while waiting for Feb to arrive ( Alex Pepper was closed 'till then). I'll order it this week and let you know once it's installed.

Its not just Alex Peppers software. Even Snap-On scanners report the same.

Stakeman - its good to know that its not just my software. I have a buddy with road realy 4 and it read it wrong for a while till he had the "new" updated software loadded in it.

The Alex Pepper software will clear any emissions related codes, as for the others, I am not sure. I have not set any other codes yet.

I have a 2002 3500 and look under the knee panel bottom edge toward the right about under the ash tray plus about 4 ". It is a D shaped female plug mounted on a bracket.

My OBD plugs right into it very easily without having to stand on your head to see it. Just feel along the lower edge of the plastic trim panels from the steering wheel toward the right. You'll feel it before you get to the floor hump.

Which of the programs also communicates with the auto transmission computer? Heard it can read pressures and more.

While on the subject... can breaking system codes be read through the OBDII port with any of the software/ cabling mentioned? I saw in a Haynes book that our trucks should have this info available, but my code reader does not get the break codes out, so I am looking for another way.

If anyone has gotten into it this far... what pins in the OBDII are Tx, Rx, and SG for the engine information and break information? If anyone knows that, how about the baud rate and other details:) ?

Can a person tweak the trucks computer with these?

I can't believe I've had my laptop 10 months and still haven't gotten this setup yet.
