JR2, my mistake then about the jumper settings. It does smell like the same box.

I went and tried it out last night and liked it. We set the jumper to the middle setting and smoke control was good considering it was 95 degrees. The transition to added fueling is smooth enough I couldn't tell exactly when it was kicking in, unlike the EZ. Also this box did not add any noise/vibration as much as I noticed with both the vA (Bully box) I ran. WD's box is probably made to their specs or else there was some differences or problems with the EZ I tried. Who knows.

SOP power increase felt about the same as my vA, nice solid gain but not neck-snapping. EGTs didn't seem to increase noticeably, at least not as fast as the vA since fueling is held off. If I decide to go with a box that doesn't tap into the pump wire then I this is what I'm going for.

Vaughn,

Really glad to hear the box we tried on your truck last night made a difference. Thank you for stopping by and giving us a chance to demonstrate our box for you.

Wade,

I run that setup currently, it runs great.

I'll probably be jumping up to DD3's for more fuel.

You can make a generous cloud of smoke with the Comp and 275's with low boost.

275's are a good starting point. The consensus is with all of these upgrades is that you'll want more.

Gook Luck!

I am wade.....

275's, comp, and a 4" exhaust. i love the set up BUT..... like us all, i still want more. i can run on 5x5 and it smokes like heck but hey, its great for tailgaters. i don't tow yet but i know i will have MORE than enough for anything that i might want to tow. hottest i've run is 1250 WOT and about 98F outside. i want to go to DD2's, a piers hx35 with a 14cm housing and a SBC... . THEN i should be happy... ... ... Oo. Oo. Oo.

p. s. i haven't slipped my stock clutch yet and BTW, my wife talked me into the COMP... ...

I have that setup and its great. If you tow you can always upgrad to dd2s if you want more. Boy its alot more. I also have a 4"exhaust. Its a good point to start at. It was my first mod. Keeps the temps down on these middle of the road bombs. I have some bigger injectors and turbo going on once I get my injection pump problem fixed(it died). Alot of power junkies that tow run the comp and dd2s. Go to the dd website and check out there 275 comparison dyno graph. It should keep you happy for a while but with the comp on 5x5 you will need some transmission upgrades. I took out my tc with just a va. It only adds about what the comp does on 2x2. The comp is great. Of course im upgrading to the drag comp.

I tow, regularly at 7-8k lbs. and sometimes up to 14-15k, with a TST Powermax3 Competition and DD3's. And a Piers PDR Hx40 turbo.

Yes the Edge is a "pretty" box. But I love the customer support I get from TST, and I've never had to return this box due to problems like I've had with others. I've used my TST box every day since it was installed, and no problems. I did get several "check engine" lights a month ago, which was easily taken care of by a little dielectric grease on the MAP sensor connections. Don't forget the TST "grabber", the easiest and fastest way to connect your fueling box to the pump wire without ruining the wire, or leaving huge sign for the dealership Indians to find.

And the Powermax is re-programmable. Wade, come to my grand opening, we could do a "try-before-you-buy" on the TST and the Edge boxes.

Tarpon fishing

I'm planning on the 300 mile trip to Cynthiana unless a fishing trip materializes:eek: Hel, I might do both--1600 miles in a week.

"Pretty" is not how I would describe the Comp- it's just not BFU.

Now that I've got my radio installation figured out, I only have a brake controller and fueling box to locate and mount.

Maybe I should have started a poll. Let me go look for one, I may still.

Anyway the purpose of this thread was to get feedback from folks who had had problems.

I quote me:

++++++

Has anybody been dissatisfied with any of these electronic dohickies, or pi$$ed by customer support? Or seen one really outperform another?

Is there any real difference in the way they accomplish the added power?

How did you choose your box?

++++++

Tom, you're the first person to say anything about problems of any sort. I'm looking hard at Edge because they seem to be more popular.

BTW the site JR2 listed is back up http://www.tibor.org/fuel-box.html

Where is TST on the list? Good customer service includes getting the information out to the consumer. That's a strike right there.

I may poke the injectors in before the 27th, but I'll wait to check out the boxes in person.

They advertise right here

TST has an advertisement right here on this board. :) They advertise in the Mag too. They have advertisements in 4wheeler and a couple other mags too. :)

They're out there just not as big as Edge yet.

TST now has a fueling box for the PowerJokes and they're working on one for the Dmax. ;)

The Edge is a good box but I want the remotes so I can hide the box under the dash panel. :p

Give TST a call if you have some questions. They are super nice, but Mark is a busy man so you might have to hold while on the phone for a few minutes.

Any way you go you wont be unhappy. More fuel is always better. :D

The TST PM3 has nice features, but if you want timing your going to have to piggy back an Edge EZ or other timing box.

With the Comp you will have this all in one, and sublevels that control smoke to boot!

I didn't say TST wasn't advertising, they didn't respond to the guy who made the bigarse chart of boxes. SEE: http://www.tibor.org/fuel-box.html

For some reason I keep thinking the Comp IS remote controlled. Maybe you are thinking of an EZ and clones thereof.

Yes, I must have timing! Thanks for bringing that up JW3. IF TST had been on the chart mentioned above I would have known that already!

Can anybody tell me why I wouldn't want a box with timing?

Anybody tried the "virtual box" at blue chip- it's pretty snazzy. Turn the key, push the buttons, but no smoke.

update

I'm found a deal on a used Diesel Dynamics UFM. I've talked to Edge and DD about it. The DD is a slightly altered Comp box. The general consensus is that the DD box produces a bit less smoke with same power output, and may be a better choice for running larger injectors.

I haven't done injectors yet. I didn't want to have to use a boost fooler pre-box, and then not need it once I got the fueling box.

So here I go with a DDUFM (to be delivered today) on stock ETC. I have also decided that I'll add DD3 injectors, but I've got a clutch and HX-40 to buy to make that jump. So I might be trying some 275's before I go to 3's.

Now to go to the nursery and inquire about some money trees.

I am also wondering about timing. What are the pros and cons of advancing the timing? I heard that advancing the timing in cold weather is not good.

Neither blue chip nor TST do anything with the timing, but yet their products produce a lot of power without too much EGT's right?

I've tried that virtual box and I'm impressed. I would really like to get the deluxe or premium model.

J,

Aaron or myself need to give you a ride in one of our trucks!

We'll show you that Timing will lower EGT's and also create a crapload of smoke if you want it too, faster fuel delivery also means power and speed (IMO).

:D :--) Oo. got the DDUFM installed today!

My clutch is all:eek: :{

Takes some getting used to. What with the extra clatter and the boost gauge going WAY fast to uncharted parts of the dial.

The clutch surprised me when it slipped. It had held up to several WFO romps, but later I was cruising on level 5 (what else?) and spotted a clear section of road. I leaned on it and the R's were down and the clutch slipped. Clutch holds pretty good if the R's are up. I'm using 3x5 all the time now.

Thrilled to come charging (90mph) up "my hill" to find the EGT's staying under 1200. Saw the boost gauge almost hit 40# once. I actually came up the hill with less boost and same EGT's at my 70mph test speed. That has to be the timing folks.

Problems with the added power: The straight parts of all the roads around here have become much shorter. My brake pads ain't gonna make the weekend. And the gear box was close-ratio before, now it's ultra-close. I may have to start skipping a few. And the big problem is that I can't just lug it around now--that slips the clutch.

But overall, I'm WAY impressed. This is enough power to get me into all kinds of trouble. Which reminds me, I saw a car up in some trees tonight.

So I'm in a hurry for a clutch, but the 3's/HX40 etc. can wait a while.

The TST box's are timing and fuel, they cost less up front, and with the powermax 3 adjustable you get a nine level remote. You get power in 15 hp and 40 ft lb incriments at the rear wheels. Level 9 is an additional 120HP and 360 ft lb of torque. :--) . Plus it is CARB certified.

Hey Wade,

Glad to see you're enjoying your DD UFM. My experience with the clutch is. . once it starts slipping, it will get worse. I was able to make it slip on 1x3 with DD2 after a while. Might want think about ordering the clutch pretty soon.

Charles

78repowerwagon,

I dont believe TST boxes have timing, people add timing boxes to give them timing with their TST boxes (like Edge Ez's).

You need to communicate with the Fuel Pump control module on the VP44 to adjust timing (more like manipulate) which Edge accomplises via CAN bus communication link.

TST pierces the pump wire in the same place as Edge to control the fuel pump solenoid, but this is not timing (just fuel control)

Of course everything is to the best of my knowledge, and stacking EDGE EZ's on TST power max 3's does work!! (I encourage anyone with a PM3 to piggyback it with an Edge Ez, you'll see a big difference in speed and fuel delivery)
