I have a probably 70s vintage 4KW Onan generator that I use every year or two when power is lost like this past weekend after Hurricane Delta came through. It has developed an oil leak at the fan end of the motor, have not had any luck finding an oil seal? Any suggestions? Thanks. bg

I would handle this one of two ways if a dealer or online parts diagram wasn’t available.

1. Remove the old seal and see if there is any PNs on it. Usually oil seals aren’t one-offs, most are common.

2. If no part number, then you can measure the crank diameter, bore diameter, and bore depth and look up a seal that way. The internet has many resources when looking up stuff like this.

Chances are the seal you have leaking is a common one and readily available.

There is a guy called Boomer I’ve seen his business referred to over on the Case Ingersoll forum. He is the guy to go to for Onan engines. Try this guy Bill, Barneveld Imp. 608-924-1662 (The Parts Guys)

Thanks again for all the replies, I took the shroud off this AM and the leak is the flex line to the oil pressure gage. Broke into pieces when I removed it. I'm lucky the power came back on when it did or I would have a wrecked engine. bg
