Old diesel welder with fuel problem

I have an old diesel welder with a White 4 cyl engine. It has been sitting for about 4 years now. It will start on ether, but will not run on its own. I have replaced the fuel filters and added an electric lift pump after the tank, so I now have fuel to the injector pump, but nothing from the injectors. Could something (gel, dirt, etc) clog the injector pump from sitting? Is there something I could put in the tank to help clear it if so?

I have not worked on injector pumps at all except for replacing my VP44 on my Dodge, but I have no problem taking it apart if there is something I can do to get it going. It ran fine last time I used it. Thanks

When you say "but nothing from the injectors. " are you breaking the nut loose on each injector?

Make sure the return line is not crimped.

yes-well, i broke two of them loose (the easiest to reach) but I did not check the return - I will do that tonight as well. Thanks!

Look at the fuel shut off real good as B. G. Smith mentioned.

Get all the injector nuts backed off a couple of rounds (no need to loosen any more) and as each one stops sending out air bubbles tighten it up.

Take it easy on the either. Could bend a rod or cause ring damage. Always get the engine rolling over first then give it short blasts.

You might already know that if it's smoking while cranking it's getting diesel fuel. Always start with fully charged batteries.

When bleeding/purging a mechanical pump, make sure the "throttle" is wide open for maximum pump shot. It can take a month of Sundays if the pump is at "idle".

There is usually a screen at the inlet line to the injection pump. If it had a "primer" or "transfer" pump mounted to the injection pump, it is located in the fitting where the line enters that. If you are getting fuel through the lines but it still will not run, you may have clogged injectors. A good injector shop can clean/balance them for you if that is so.
