I've got 10 gal. of fuel I've stored for about 6 months in a sealed can. Any suggestions as to additives before I use it. I'm in So. Cal. and the cheapest fuel is $2. 79, I could get rid of it but I hate to lose the money.

TIA

Dave

If the container is galvanized than I'd pitch the fuel..... Additives in diesel fuel will work on the galvanized lining of a container and send deposits into the fuel that both the filters and our high pressure injection systems don't care for.....

Also old stale fuel will grow bugs..... those that are naturally in the fuel... ... .

I think I would use it in an older engine with old style injectors but not our trucks...

It's stored in plastic

Pour it in the truck and run it.

6 months isn't that old. I've used diesel that was close to 5-6 years old in tractors on the farm and that worked just fine.

Or if your really that worried about it, save it and use it to start campfires, run the lantern, etc.

Six months isn't that old. If it still looks like diesel and smells like diesel, run it. If it smells a little funny, just add a gallon or two per tank... and run it. It is amazing what a diesel can swallow!!!

Pour a little in a glass, and if it's clear, use it. If it has algae, then you need to filter thru some paper (coffee filter or other paper towels) then add some conditioner and pour it in.

There are new trucks on dealers lots with fuel older than that.
