Ok guys.
Dad and my brother are building a power unit to run an auger on the farm via 540 PTO. They aquired an engine from a 750 Massey combine(aka Perkins 354). They had an adapter made to mate it to a truck transmission through a direct coupling. Tonight they get it up and running to report that the output of the trans is running counterclockwise facing the shaft from the rear!!!??? My brother verified smoke from the exhaust, and oil pressure, so its not running backwards on accident.
Did the Perkins 354 run counter clockwise in the combines??
I told them to go back out in the morning and start it again and verify rotation of the engine, and the output of the trans. Initially my brother thought the trans was the culprit, but I cannot imagine that, as there is a 1:1 gear ratio and it runs CCW. In reverse the output runs CW.
Does anybody know if the tractor 354 has the same block as the combine 354?
Michael
