I have had a Viper "something" (forget the model its been so long) half installed in my '98 12 valve for a little over one year now. It was a smokin' deal at the time and included a turbo timer, which was the main reason for the purchase. Back to the problem... the alarm is installed up to the point of controlling the door locks and eninge (I guess some will read that as not installed at all... haha) Anyways, the door locks are not a problem I simply ran out of time one day and needed another relay that i didnt have. The alarm is installed above the radio unit in the dash and gets GREAT wireless range. The directions were missing from the kit so I found some on the net for the product but they are lacking a bit here and there. For example, for the turbo timer and remote start to work you have to connect to the TACH signal. I have hunted EVERYWHERE on the truck for it. Starting from the gauge cluster, through the ECM, PCM, all the way down to the actual sensor on the dampener. No valid TACH signal anywhere. Some have said to add a seperate sensor, etc, etc, howerver I would rather not and I would have to imagine there has to be a wire SOMEWHERE that would work.
Anyone have any experience wireing in one of these alarms on our trucks? Or better yet, can anyone produce a VALID wiring (wire color codes and location) for common alarm connections? I have a shop manual for the truck however it is rough at best because its for a '99 2500 and it covers everything from gassers to 3500 cummins (kind of a pain to sort through). That and the fact that Dodge seemed to change the color of their wires each year for some reason...
It's gotten to the point where if I look at the EGT and its hot, I'll just sit and wait for it to cool, but it would be nice to have. Plus I just got a auto-down relay and since the door has to come apart I might as well wire in the alarm relays, and since I'm that far along I might as well fix the rest of the alarm...
