Was cleaning up the Ox last weekend and looked closely at the tires. These are Michelin LTXs with 34000 miles on them. They were weather cracked pretty badly. Don't know if I dare pull my fifthwheel with em on. These tires must have been on the shelf at the tire store for 10 years before I bought em. I guess I will have to start checking the stickers for manufacter dates!I am going to vent on th dealer and see if he will give me some trade value. Plenty of tread left,I'd say another 20000 miles. I have taken good care of this rubber,Armorall,cleaning,etc. Anybody else have this problem?Haven't much cared for these tires,handle crappy aired down without a load.

Let me tell you what I did based on what I was told. Thus far, Michlein, Goodyear and Firestone have been the only ones making the 265/75/16s load range E. Love my Michleins, Goodyears are OK, ain't havin no Firestones even as a gift. I have always had a great deal of respect for Delta tires. I also love Yokahamas. Well... ... ..... much to my surprise and delight, Yoka has bought Delta and has done nothing but improve the product. They have entered the market place with a 265/75/16 load E that is supposed to be 31. 8" tall. I have ordered a set for my Dad's 97 CTD. Thru my dealership, they were $95 each. I'll let you know how they do... .....

I have been told by several different tire dealers that 5 years is about max for radial tires, then seperations can occur. This doesnt mean 5 years on your truck but 5 years old from Mfg date. There is a Mfg date code on each tire but I cant remember how to read it.

I think I will go with Toyos next time if they have a E rated tire with a less agressive tread.

I have a TDR friend who is thinking of replacing his Goodyear GSA tires for a set of Michelin LTX A/S. Anyone tried these? He is going to tow his 5th wheel to Alaska this summer and needs a new set of "casings" before he starts out.

Michelin makes a ten ply rated tire but I forget the acronym for it. They run about 180 per tire. I would want the best casing if I was headed for Alaska.

I have LTXs that I put on 2 years ago. They have about 35k on them and look good for double that. No cracks or other blemishes.

Look for the DOT# on the tire. It will say DOTxxxxxx. The last digit is the year of manufacture if made before y2k. If made in /after y2k then the last 2 digits. If manufactured befor y2k then an 8 could be 58,68,78,88 or 98, with no real way of distinguishing the decade. The other #'s are factory, shift, mold and other stuff.

Yep, I have the XPS Radials on my 5th wheel. I had problems with the Goodyear Wrangler HTs as original equipment tire throwing the tread. I changed out to the Michelin XPS Radials and have had 0 problems since. So far, they show very little signs of wear. I park the 5er inside so weathering isn't a big factor.

My brother had a set of XPS Radials on his Ford F250 and they lasted like iron but gave a little harsher ride than the OE Firestones due to the steel belts and sidewalls. My TDR friend purchased a set of Michelin LTX A/Ts for his trip to Alaska. His new tire production dates are the last week of 2000. It will be a good test!!
