Yep, The old war wagon got wacked late yesterday afternoon while my Son and I were sitting in a right turn lane:{. Smashed the rear bumper, other damage has not been assessed as the weather is not permitting. My Son is fineOo. and I have some discomfort in my neck and lower back, but that could be due to the stress:mad:. A lady in a van rearended us and messed up the front of her van. Her airbags did not deploy! I was taking my Son to the doctor and we were <100 yards from the office:rolleyes: We'll see if the old hunk of iron is still in good shape and I dont have to part it out. I drove it home in the snow storm, last evening. If the frame is racked, I hope to get another truck? I dont know if that can be fixed? Gregh

Glad to see your ok the truck can be Fixed we rolled our's and drug it back home and with the help of some good friends rebuilt it to be even better

Sorry to hear of your problem but good to know your both OK. Yes the frame can be brought back, I have a friend that has an alignment shop and I've seen some pretty twisted frames come right back. The only thing is sometimes the insurance companies want to total some of our "older" vehicles:mad:

Count on the insurance company totalling it. But, they'll ususally let you keep it, and keep the "salvage" designation off the title. Then you can get it fixed (rear damage, easy cheap repair), and pocket the rest of the money. Dont take their first offer, always demand $1000 more, then settle for $500 more.

Glad to hear you're both ok. Keep an eye on your neck and get it checked out if it gets worse, preferrably by a good chiropractor (finding one is about like finding a good mechanic or horseshoer)

Daniel

Greg, glad you and the boy are OK. Frames can be straightened, so don't worry about that stuff.

I've had good luck with the chiropractor, I guess he can be lumped in with DP and me. ;)

Thanks Gents for kind replys. I took it in for an estimate yesterday. ~$500 for the rear bumper. I expressed concern for the hitch and the fuel tank brackets. The estimator said, " We will look at that when WE remove the rear bumper and it is up on OUR rack! So the estimate is incomplete, dependent on wether THEY get the work! NOT!! GregH

Last year I got about $500 for my rear bumper and $400 for the front one.

It was the second time I collected for the rear without replacing it. Both times the car that hit me suffered major damage.

LOL Never tweaked the frame, never affected the hitch, even though last year it was my my wife's Jetta that got pushed into my hitch ball... went right thru her bumper. :-laf:-laf $6K damage to her car both front and rear... barely visable damage to my truck's bumpers.

Your truck should be ok structurally.

Well, just got off the phone with the insurance rep. They will not pay any other damages unless it is "discovered" during the "professional" R&R of the bumper! I think that I will allow them to do the work, that way it will have a proper undercarriage inspection, and I get to drive another 4X4 for a couple of days:-laf. This is the only vehicle that I actually own. I have access to my Moms Taurus but it is not a 4X4. The truck NEEDS to be serviceable and I am not to keen on playing HD mechanic anymore:eek:. This time of year, the 4X4 is an absolute necessity. GregH

Im not a believer in evolution, but if we had crawled out of some kind of boiling primordial soup, insurance companies would have been the burnt on crust that stuck to the bottom of the pot.

WJune, I would be interested ifn you weren't so far away! I'd need another cab and fenders, too. The only thing left that would be original, is the engine and drivetrain:-laf. 'Course thats what it is about! Its just a machineOo. GregH

Greg,

Been away for a few days, missed your earlier posts, sorry to hear about the damage, hope you and your Son are well with no serious issues.

Best Wishes.
