anyone know what kind and how much oil to put in a new compressor on a 99 olds silhouette with front and rear a. c. ?

Call a dealer. If you can't find a sticker somewhere in the engine compartment saying R12 or R134, then you probably need to take it somewhere and have the system looked at, and possibly rebuilt (expansion valve, receiver/dryer, compressor... ).

The oil is either going to be PAG or Ester. Don't know that you can mix them. Quantities vary by system.

the type of oil depends on if it has R-12 or R-134a. If the system is R-12 it will be a little more complicated to find oil, and more expensive. You might be able to find some on Ebay. One of the other things that you can do if the system is R-12 is get the conversion kit to R-134a. It costs about 100. 00 or so, but it will be cheaper in the long run when it comes to finding refrigerant or refrigerant oil. Hope this helps.

Drain the old compressor into a measureing cup,add that amount of oil and you will be good to go ;)You are not trying to add oil just to keep the same amount as before the part change out.
