Oil filter questions revisited.

Anybody have any experiance w/ Donaldson filters? mainly the oil filters? i went to the local Pete dealer where i get my filters and they dont keep the Fleetgard on hand anymore due to fleetgards pricing. so i ask if theres a filter comprable to fleetgard and he said the Donaldson is a highly used filter and less than half the price. i said "half the price, must be a Cheap filter"? he said no fleetgard dosent give them any price breaks on there filters. donaldson does. hence the lower price. my question is has anybody tryed them? i ck'd the "approved" list and there not on there, but i'm more interested in a filter that works, not one that Cummins promotes. plus the ones from the dealer are just so D*%n expensive. if anyones heard of a ligit reason not to use um i'm all ears. oh the LF3894 crosses over to a donaldson P558615

TIA, Scott

I know Fleetguard gives discounts. I buy LF3894's for $5 each through work... which is our discounted price due to our volume of Fleetguard products. I buy a half a case at a time.

Donaldson makes good products. The only other I'd consider are Napa Gold/WIX filters personally. I've had good service in other applications.

Regular priced LF3894's cost 8 bucks around here. How cheap do you want to go? Or what are you paying now for Fleetguards?

Filters

Neil, i'm not looking for cheap just readlly avail. w/out mail ordering them. the donaldson sells for 4$ and change, The fleetgard goes for 9$ and change. i wanna cut open a donaldson just outta curiosity. i'd pay 9$ a piece if i could just go to Pete and pick them up.

Thanks for the info, Scott

Donaldson filters are commonly used on large industrial engines, compressors and gas turbines. They make good filters for these applications. I wouldn't expect anything less in their filters for the Cummins 5. 9B, but there's obviously a risk in running a filter not on Dodge's approved list if you're concerned about the Dodge warranty.

Having said that, I order Geno's 4-2-1 Fleetguard package and throw the air filter away!

Any Case dealers, a loggers supply, freightliner dealers? What about a Cummins dealer in the area? We use only Donaldson filters on our air intake for the gas turbines at work, but I don't know much about their oil filter side. They are excellent air filters though. If you've got a Pete dealer locally there must be somewhere else that has fleetgard products!

I tried a Pete dealer near KC, all they had were Baldwin filters. I get Fleetguard's painted black at the Case IH dealer in Lawrence, Ks. Still about $10 ea. for Stratapore's. I'm all for less expensive filters, but not cheap ones.

I noticed out at work that the shop started using the Hastings filters instead of the Fleetguard on our equipment. I don't know how comparable they are to quailty and price compared to the Fleetguard, have not ask yet. And Rusty it would be nice if Geno's offered the kits on other year models with out the air filter like on the 2003 kits. $82. 00 with air filter----$58. 00 without. Oo.

If you want to get rid of the air filters, you could save a couple up and send them to me. I'll gladly pay the postage. :p

Or he could order the kit without the air filter, cost less. At least $10 I think ?
