For the guys that have not done this here is my little word about it. First off the spring is only $18. 00 max. Next the install is not that bad even for a first timer like myself. Next remember that full fuel screw you turn in to make power. You will have to back it way out 2-3 turns trust me on this one. Next you remember trying to make more power by adding a big turbo, AFE, injectors and what not? lol... . If you install one of these GOV springs all of that stuff will start to work together.

So for over a year I have done as much as I can to get my truck to boogy down the road. I installed a HX-35. . Woohoo smooth turbo lots of power but still it lacked something. Installed a set of POD injectors. Woohoo wow thats a shot in the arm and wow I am making some boost. Install a nice filter dam now I can here the turbo sweet ricers here I come.

Play with the pump and timing a little wow this is great my truck can run a mid 16 sec 1/4mile. Keep in mind its a DRW 350 4X4.

I want more what can I do ok water/meth that has got to do something right? Wow big deal there a hole wopping 5HP on the dyno. lol Need more boost for this to work.

Flash forward a few months what else can I do I know this thing can run better others accelorate much faster. incert DAM 12V P-pumps... lol

Hmm maybe I can give a GOV spring a try its only $18. 00 bucks what the heck do I have to loose.

I installed it yestarday ... ... ... OMG. . First off if you do not have one of these and install it make sure and turn your full fuel screw out atleast 2-3 turns and reset your idle trust me on this one.

I take the truck out after installing this little spring for a sunday drive. Drove maybe 20 miles on the freeway to get the truck all warmed up. I could tell that there was a differance right away. At half throttle were my detent for the transmission creates a hang up on my throttle my boost gauge would read 11-13PSI. In that same spot now with the new GOV spring the truck was making 20-23PSI. Keep in mind I had turned my fuel screw out 2 full turns. I was like WTF there is no way this could be right. Oh ho hum what the heck. I just kept pushing the go pedal real slow to the floor 25PSI the water/meth kicked in. . Still watching the EGT its about 1050 and dropped every so little. . Keep pushing 30PSI I was like yeah baby my truck had only ever been to 26 PSI before the spring install. I was thinking did I turn the pump back to my origanal timing marks after I moved it to get at them back bolts at this time... lol Yes I did. .

Keep pushing 35PSI and I still have another 1/4 throttle left on the go pedal... DAM. . This is were it gets good. I look at the EGT meter and its sittlng right at 1250. . so I backed out of it after pushing it one time all the way to the floor. The EGT would have kept going easy...

So here is the deal. I now need a boost gauge that will read higher then 35PSI so I can make sure I know were I am at. The truck kicks *** and I think its the best thing I have done since injectors. I have a differant set of injectors now also... .

If your thinking of doing a GOV spring just remember that nike saying (JUST DO IT). .

OMG I dont know why I didnt do this allong time ago. . Oo.

Well there you have it..

Hey L,

Gitcha sum valve springs. Then cut that governor spring shorter a tad and then see what she'll do. It'll push you back through that set of yours. :D

(You'll have to slightly modify that throttle lever a bit to get her to slow idle again).

Its just one of them things I wish I did about a year ago. Let me ask you this. If I am turning my full fuel screw out will I use less fuel as well?

I mean I know if I keep my foot out of it it should but will this improve things allot or just a little what has bee your findings?

I run around town and get 13. 6 before I did this all day. Freeway was a little better but I was just wondering if I should see an improvment.

Yes your engine will use a bit less fuel, however 50% of economy is how YOU drive. The other half is the way you set up the turck.

I cannot say exact figures becasue when I modify a pump... ..... the fuel screw goes to the max point that run-a-way is nearly in reach. You probably have a few turns untill you reach the breakover point. It most likely will only result in more smoke at low boost. If your going to dyno for max HP, then you'll need to get another turbo (more/ cooler air) and turn the fuel screw in till you reach run-a-way and back it out about a 1/2 turn.

I really want to keep the EGT down so I will be backing the fuel down a little more so there is not so much thinking going on while I drive down the road.

I am just tickled pink at how much this did for the truck and I am turning the pump down rather then looking for more thats not there... lol

I might have to go find a HX-40 now...

Hear that Chris, MMiller, Cade, Daniel, Philip, Jeremy, hmm... anyone else that hasn't installed this 3200 spring???:-laf:-laf

Ordered mine from a local diesel service, $14 and change. 20 questions though, I would give a part number and try to leave it at that... ;)

Do you have to call pdr to get that 3200rpm gov spring for 18$? The one on there site for 3000 rpms is 125$.

The one for 12V P-pump is 125. 00 look for the one that is 12V 89-93 or just call them. .

How tuff of a job is this for someone who has never messed with the injection pump? Thanks

It took me an hour and I took my time doing things to make sure it all went well.

You can goto the following link for a real good idea what it takes to install lots of pictures.

http://dens-site.net/Dodge_CTD/Governor_Spring/

Keep a pan under your truck when you pull the top off it will leak about a cup of diesel out on the ground.

Well... since I've had the spring from TDR for about 8 months now. I guess it's time to get it off of the shelf and see what happens.

Please what ever you do turn your full fuel screw way out before you even start your truck up. I would suggest atleast 4 turns out from full in. After you go for a test run turn it up from there and turn your idle back down as you turn the fuel screw in. .

The people at PDR included instruction on how to install the spring but the link above works better with pictures.

ya ya ya

I was looking at it just today Bill.

The tractor is almost back together, then I'm gonna have to get started modifying that VW TDI, Piers makes a bigger turbo that I NEED :D
