WADE,

not to pick on or anything your sig says 415 ponies. this will not be that much in the near future. i will have 350 with just an ez. the new 6L are getting 400+ with just a box (trannys are holding this hp in a stock form with ease). i like the pre 03 trucks dont get me wrong but the hp war is on and the VP44 are being left behind. my 99CTD dynoed at 186 stock hp. my 03 on the same dyno put down 296hp. they have come a long way and in the future the 03 will look weak. upgrading to stay in front is a must. the common rail in the duramx is amazing(yes i know the engine sucks) they can run low 13's with stock turbo and stock injectors. if you run into a truck with common rail that was equally modded as yours he will smoke you litteraly. this is not to flame you b/c i like reading your posts but everyone on this board know this is reality. diesel trucks have become just like computers... yea my 98 sony laptop that i am typing on works well but it aint as good as the new ones. this is a reality not an opinion. i will say this 96-98 12v's will never be beat by any new technology. i can go on but 98% have stopped reading by now.

Yep, 415 because I can't burn the fuel I've got. New turbo should put me up to 475 or so. :D

I understand what you're saying, and agree that the CR stuff is BOMBing rather well. In defense of my VP44 truck--I'm through with the power on it after the turbo. It's my civilized go-to-town truck. I'm going to get a p7100 truck and make a BEAST out of it--as you have agreed already, is a fine choice for that application.

But back to the "horsepower wars"--we're a very small part of the diesel truck market. I don't think DC gives a hoot in hell about the two 95's pulling sleds last night-even if one did pull 401 feet(or the other 5 CTD's that pulled, including an 02 and 03 for that matter). Most all of their energy (money) is focused on getting you to buy a new one. Million mile trucks--sure DC likes to point at them and say "look at what we can do" BUT they know full well that if we all started driving vehicles for that long, they'd go bankrupt.

The large majority of diesel truck buyers are never going to up the power one bit. They are thrilled by a neat commercial and take the manufacturers' claims for power as gospel, buy a truck and it works for them and that's it.

The auto makers are adding 5 or 10 HP here or there for a sales pitch, and are redesigning their engines and fuel systems to comply to

EPA/Federal mandates/rules/regs. These rules may "save the planet", but then again they may be so much whizzing in the wind. We'll probably not live long enough to find out the difference.

(Recap for those that got lost-I kinda wandered)--More power with CR, fine-- give me a 5-year-old one that will hang with the 7100 trucks.

Holy cow, look where this thread has gone!
