I own a 2006 Dodge Ram 3500, and I want to install an “on-board air system” for tire maintenance. I thought why not kill two birds with one stone and add an air-horn system at the same time. My question is which compressor and horn are the highest rated (and can make the loudest noise) and most recommended?

I am using a Viair 450C compressor (135 - 150 psi). Klein Train Horns are super loud. Dessert Rat for $ 100 (2 Chime set)

My bed box makes a great spot to mount the compressor and tanks.

I use a ExtremeOutback.com extremeair magnum 6cfm at 0psi and 2. 6cfm at 100psi. 100% duty cycle at 150 psi. If you want to go belt driven you can get 8cfm at 100 psi.

compare to viair 450c 1. 6cfm at 0 psi, . 94cfm at 100 psi

I dont think the sound of a Nathan K3 or K5 can be beat. ebay is your friend, there was some brand new Nathan k3la for $500.

This is before the mount got powder coted, and truck is a mess but you get the idea.

I also am using the extremair compressor. I bought horns from Ricksons Truck Accessories. I think they were Grovers. If I recall they ran about 50-60 for the pair (just the horns) and then I needed to get a solenoid from them as well that I think was another 30ish or so.

I have the ZenithAir compressor sitting in the garage. When I bought (about 2 years ago now), it was the baddest one for the money. 200psi, 100% duty cycle rated.

Just a heads up... I have my pump, tank, and horns mounted to the outside of the passenger side frame and with all the weather, road grime, salt, and whatever else is getting up there, it has been not kind to the electronics. I have been replacing things like pressure switches and relays, and the horns are less than a year old. I got them from Seige engineering.
