I built it up from parts. It's a 3/4hp 100% duty cycle air cooled compressor. The power plug picks up the 40 amp trailer plug power.

Is the 40 Amp power plug the stock plug connection in the center, as I need one for the winch on my car hauler.

thanks Joe

Joe... Do you have to get out and plug in the connector when you want to use your horn... :D Just kidding... ;)

Reply to Ryan and Bob......thanks David

Another option is to get an inverter and run a small 110 volt compressor. This is what I have on my truck and it works better than the modified AC compressors that I use to run, I have less that $300 in it and has lasted over a year so far with no problems. I got the Inverter from Costso for under $100. 00 and the compressor I got from Sears for under $100. 00 also.

First, Ryan... . yes that is the exact one. Correct the flow rate is modest, but this thing is built to last..... I think when it runs, it sounds like a 'little Cummins' in my bed !

It weighs a ton -- the picture makes it look puny. I think it's rated for 10,000 hours running and then they sell a rebuild kit..... you coudn't wear it out !

But I think Bob is on to something with the low-cost inverter running a 'standard' 120v compressor--this would get you probably better flow than mine at a much lower cost... ... not to mention you'd have the onboard inverter for other AC usages..... what versatility, huh ?

Hey Bob, can you detail how big and type of inverter and compressor for us detail freaks ? [I'm curious to know where you mounted the inverter and how heavy a dc cable you attached to the battery ? Std battery or did you upgrade ?... ... . ]

God bless the TDR community, truly an outstanding example of helpful unity and interesting diversity... ... . Trinitarian, even.

Air 'em up.....

I'll try to get some pictures later if I get a chance. The inverter is under the front seat, it is rated for 1000 watts continuous, 1200 intermittent and 2000 surge. It worked fine after I did two things to the compressor, one I had to build a unloader to let the compressor to start without a load. The compressor came with one but it would unload too quick sometimes. Second, in cold weather (under 30 dig) it would not start, so I switched to syntactic oil and has started with no problems in the teens. I using #4 cable to the inverter with a 100 amp fuse. The only thing that I haven't done is set it up so it powers up with the ignition. I want to set it up so there is a time delay after the truck starts for the inverter to start. With the grid heaters running the inverter draws down the alternator too much. One nice feature is the low voltage cut out, if the batteries get too low the inverter will shut down. I have let the compressor run without the engine running and the inverter will shut off and leave enough battery to start the truck. This is with the 7 1/2 year old oem batteries.

I went the same way that Bob V did. Here is a link to the Senco air compressor that I have installed in the toolbox. I am using a 1500 watt inverter from Cosco. http://www.juldan.com/juldan.html?tcomp.html

From there it feeds a 5gal. tank mounted under the drivers side.

From the tank I run air supply into a air distributing water proof box with a hinged lid. Inside I have a regulator for the U. S. Gear exhaust brake, a solenoid for the air horns, another solenoid for purging water that may build up in the tank, and a couple spare solenoids for future projects.

My model is the PC1010.

What hose is that connecting the compressor to the tank?

What type and brand solenoids are you using and where from? I know of a place to get banks of 4 and 6 but not individual ones. I did find one at Layton truck in the Sale Bin for $10 but haven't used it on anything yet.
