Sirius 1 add-on problems?

Has anyone come up with an idea for a leak-proof container to keep fuel additive in and carry in the cab? I'm anal about adding additive with every tank of fuel so I must be able to carry it with me.

I have a 5x14" tupperware container that fits under the rear seat. Inside this I have a smaller tupperware container that I keep a small role of paper towels, small funnel, and 2oz. medicine bottle. I have been using a Snapple fruit juice bottle that will hold approx. 10oz. of fuel additive. After refueling I pour the appropriate amount of additive into the small medicine bottle and then dump into the tank. The seal on the Snapple bottle has weakened, and it has been leaking a small amount of additive. I use Redline 85+ and this stuff is very slippery and smelly. The double tupperware containers contain the leak and smell, but, of course, now I'm getting a mess in the small container.

I like my present set-up with the double tupperwares, so the LEAK-PROOF container has to be about the same size as a Snapple juice bottle... . 10-12 oz. capacity.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Why not just keep the bottle in the bed of the truck wrapped in a shop rag?

I used to carry about 3 containers used for gasline antifreeze, the little shot bottles. They turned out to be the right amount of Stanadyne additive for 1 tankfull. Just pop the top and dump before fueling and they didn't seem to leak on me.
Now I run a graduated 1 litre (1 Qt. ) squeeze bottle with a nozzle and just keep it in my toolbox with all the other fluids.

I've got a little 8oz. Stanadyne "one shot" bottle that I keep re-using. I keep a couple of whole pints (or my 1/2-gallon jug) in the bed, inside of a rectangular bucket (I love that cheap laundry detergent!). . every so often, i hafta re-load the little containers from the big ones. .
----Ya know, if'n ya ax'ed him/her real nice, I bet your local Pharmacist could give you a few 8oz liquid bottles(brown plastic) pretty cheap. ---come to think of it, I wonder if my wife would bring me some! They'd be flat enough to fit 6-8 in the door pocket, upright, or inside the tupperware.

Thanks for the ideas, guys.

Whatever I come up with has to be in the cab. I've "road-tested" my little 2oz. medicine bottle by filling it and letting it sit on a counter at a downward angle for a few days. It finally started to leak, so I'm afraid the bigger one's would do the same. This additive has such a thin/slippery viscosity that it just seems to finally work it's way around cap groves/gasket, whatever.

I'm going to check out some of the camping gear stores.

This is a shot in the dark, but why not check a marine supply company. They might have something that would work. If it keeps water out it might keep whatever you put in from leaking out.

How about going to the drug stor and buy a bout 2 or three different bottles of cough syurp, drink the cough syurp and use them. If they leak you wont care for a while #ad

Whatever you store it in make sure it's labeled as additive, and has no traces of the old label. I my area there are injuries and even deaths caused when someone, usually kids, drink pesticides stored in beverage containers. When OHSA does it's occasional surprise inspections at my orchard they look for things like that, fine is $50,000 for pesticides stored in an incorrectly labeled container. Not that you might get inspected and fined, you just don't want your kids or grandkids drinking Standine favored Snapple.

I picked up two plastic 8 oz. containers from REI. They are generic bottles with no labels, but are marked in ounces and cc, so it's easy to measure. I have only used them for a week, but no sign of leaking. They have a mounth that is about 1. 25 in. in diameter, and I was able to pour directly into the fuel filler with no spilling. Click here to go to the REI site.

Try using one of those aluminum bottles for storing white gas for camping. They are bullet proof and keep white gas inside with no problems. Pick one up at REI or any camping/outdoor supply store.

JNutter... . I don't know how to insert the smiley facey thingies, so the "wink" was for you..... I thought you insert these where you want them in the script, but it didn't come out that way. Didn't want you to think I was dissing you. :)

I keep my bottle of Stanadyne in a large ziplock plastic bag, under the back seat. if any leaks out of the bottle (which it hasn't), it will stay in the bag. Just grab a new bag each time I need a new bottle of additive.

Thought about rinsing out one of my TT holding tank additive bottles. It has a seperate measuring section. Don't have any at the moment but will within the next couple of weeks. Don't know if it will be leak proof. I might have to add an o-ring or gasket material.

I'm bringing this thread back b/c I'm interested in what people are using for 'bulk' storage of fuel additives now that low sulfur has forced the issue and with summer travel coming up it's going to take more than a couple small bottles to last over a long trip. For around town I've been using the metal liquid bottles you can get from camping stores (REI) that are truly leakproof (10 oz. and have a screw top w/o-ring). I want to find a 2-5 gallon container that works as well.

edit: it would be something that should store in the bed.

For 2 to 5 gallons, what about a plain 'ol plastic fuel container, like you keep around for your lawn mower? You can get them in yellow even so you know its for diesel. You'd need a little measuring cup of some kind, but that's easy to find.

Some years ago I bought at dozen 16oz Nalgene bottles to carry additive in. I bought the additive in bulk (5 gallons) and filled these bottles. They don't have graduations on the side so I took a permanent marker and a measuring cup and did the markings myself with water first before using. I'd fill them up and then just toss one in a little basket in the corner of the bed of the truck and I'd have it when I filled up. They never leaked or burst. Very durable and cheap from this link. I still have them around and use them occasionally.

I keep two of the Stanadyne 16oz bottles under the back seat. I got a couple of cheapie beverage holders, the kind you hang on the window sill. I set them in the bin so the bottles rest at a 45-degree angle. This way there's no fluid pressure on the cap so the standard bottles don't leak. Those cup holders are no good for their intended purpose, but they're useful here.

I wouldn't want a container that I couldn't see through. If you have to pour into a measuring cup or funnel of some sort, then you have to clean that really well, or smell. If you wipe it out with a paper towel, then your fingers are going to smell for quite a while.

This has been working out well for several years

Bottoms up!
Neil

I use 16. 9oz plastic coke bottles. Mix my Power Service and MMO in gallon container. Fill plastic coke bottles, put 3 at a time in large zip lock bag under rear seat. Been doing this for over two years now. Had a couple leak a small amount in the zip lock bag. But none on the truck and never a smell.

I like the idea of using little airline size liquor bottles. You could just line 'em up on the dash when you get pulled over. It could be a great conversation starter and might get the officer's mind off how fast you were going. :-laf
