Anyone find a good source for $300 or less? If not, I'm going to talk to Blowjax and see if we can get them to make us up a kit with a 10+ quantity discount. This is what i'll ask for-

1/3hp 100% duty cycle compressor

3 gallon tank

pressure switch

pressure gauge

electrical relay

various fittings, hoses and electrical connections necessary

The kit would be complete except for air hose and chuck. Looks like prices have dropped over the last year thanks to the low and slow guys.

anyone else?

Todd, I checked that link, they sure look like rebadged Thomas compressors ??? Not that the Thomas is a bad compressor, but since I've seen the 100 % duty cycle Blojax... .

Hey guys, why don,t you get monroe air compressor for shock absorbers, you dial the pressure from inside the cap and put it into a 8 0r 15 gallon storage tank from a propane bottle or dive tank. It will not run tools for too long, and tire will be changable and can be repressuzized the desert easily with 150 PSI. At 150 psi

OnboardAir is going to make a kit for 24v Cummins. I dropped off my truck in dallas last week for the prototype work at a subcontractor of theirs. It would be on the truck now but they ran out of time.

Brad Kilby is good people and is taking good care of me. My father is letting them use his truck to build the kit for the PSD.

It is a very nice bracket made out of 1/4" plate by the look of it.

I will have the bracket and compressor for my truck this friday and will let you know how the install goes.

I cannot estimate the bracket kit price but it should be well under your $300 limit and you can get the york compressor used at a salvage for under $100.

I believe it is rated at 4cfm@90psi continous duty with a life of around 3000 hrs.

A full kit with all new parts should be around $750. This is a guess. I do know that the more confimed orders Brad gets will affect the price. R&d is expensive and they really do their homework. Used parts can cut several hundred dollars off of the total.

I do know that the bracket replaces the alternator bracket. you have to replace the pulley for the stock alternator ( OBA sells this for $40) and replace the serpentine w/a longer belt because the alternator rotates outward a bit.

I don't know how it will be packaged... with or without the new belt and pulley, v-belt etc. I'll post more when I know and I have the feeling I'l be one of the first to find out.

Thanks,

Mark

I just ordered this stuff from AIM -

http://www.truckn-store.com/store.asp

1/3hp 100% duty cycle compressor

3 gallon tank

pressure switch

check valve

electrical relay

Came to $290 + $25 for shipping. I'm going to try and find the fittings and hose locally. I'll post all the part #s and a performance review once I get it all working.

Also, I got all excited because their website listed 2" lowering rear shackle mounts for the 2500/3500 94+ Ram. Sadly :{ they are for 2wd only... I'm still trying to figure an easy/cheap way to level the rear of my 4x4 with the front

Firestone recently came out with a fill station. It includes a 3 gallon tank, hoses, compressor, quick conect fittings and coiled fill hose for ties, and fill knozzle and guage.

330 for the whole kit.

Anyone interested, you can get ahold of me. They are not on Firestones or my site yet.

I was talking to Brad and the OBA he runs on his jeep fills his 2. 5 gallon tank to 150psi in under 1min!!! :--)

The more I hear the better it gets.

I expect the bracket kit w/pulley and belts to be under $200. definiltely no more than 250. He has some kits that are much more complicated for less IMO.

He uses the one on his V10 3500 to run a pneumatic stapler when he gets parts from one of his suppliers. Staples the boxes in the parking lot as he loads them. Very cool.

FYI...

I priced the VMAC a while back. . in the thousands $$$$ and it has 200 and 400 hr service kits. But it will run a paint booth with no resovior(sp?).

Does that mean that it is done or still waiting for a member to loan a truck to them? Is there any chance we will get Brad to come over to the dark side... "Come with me, Luke... Feel the POWER of the Dark Side of the Force!"

The bracket is done. They are working on the welding jigs, pricing, and availability.

I loaned them my truck last week.

The more I talk to him I think he may become one of our dark knights. ;):D:D

The setup is really cool. Oo. Oo. I can't wait. Oo. Oo.

I have dealt with Brad a few times. HE is a really nice guy and run has great customer service. I started to do an onboard air for my V-10, but now the parts are going on the Cummins. The air tanks he sells are DOT approved and well priced. All I neeed now is the engine driven compressor.

Can anyone recommend an air tank? I was eyeing these 2 tanks on ebay - seem like a reasonably price but I am not too familiar with the going rate:

According to my conversion those are about 6. 5 gallon tanks, DOT approved for about $45 delivered.

Will be topping up tires basically... ... Eventually Pacbrake? Air horn? Thats probably about it.

Educate me please...

What are the pros/cons of a belt driven compresser vs an electirc compressor? I have wanted a system for a year now, but have other bills to pay first. I would primarily use it for RV tires up to 100 psi, and eventually air horns also. Don't plan to ever run any high volume air tools.

Thanks, Steve

I would say in general:

Electric cheaper/easier, less power and more likely to burn out

Belt driven more expensive, harder to install, more air and less likely to burn out ;)

For light duty a 12v electric compressor can be OK I think.

Thanks Patrick. Sounds like I am looking for a 12v system. An occasional tire up to 100 psi is about all I need. I just hate the hassle of trying to find an air station with a 38' fiver behind me!

Take care y'all

Steve

I had a few links for some really nice compressors that ran off a 12 volt starter motor.

I cant access them anymore. They were on the work computer and work up & moved to mexico on me.

Edit: These were high press/volume units. I dont think a "few" air tools at a time would be a problem.
