has anyone done a writeup on exactly how to go about installing a york compressor on a 3rd gen for onboard air. I know kilby makes the kits but $1600:eek:? I have heard about jeep guys putting their whole setup together for under $100, so if at all possible i'd like to get the compressor from the junkyard ($30) and put everything together and spend the extra $1500 on something else (like a downpayment on TWINS!!!)

:D

Why not go with the electric on board air? Then all you need to buy is the pacbrake PRXB air actuated exhaust brake.

You can buy the mounting kit from Kilby and then source everything else from your choice of suppliers.

ke-3100 kit.

If you had a 6. 7L I've put together a mounting kit do mount a York pump on them.

I read about ybe oasis air system a little and I love the concept. Can someone with a little more knowledge than myself tell me what the best size/kind of electric motor would be used to run a York long stroke. I hhave room to mount both the electric motor and compressor between my stacks and between the front of the bed and my toolbox. Seems to me this setup could be attained for $300 or so versus $1300 . Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Didnt want to mess around under the Hood (To much stuff there now) Just wire in a Elect. Cir. like the TDR has shown for the last 3 issues and mount on top of Aux fuel tank like I did or mount under bed of truck. I just didnt want all the road grime on it. Compressor was like $425. 00 tank was from work they didnt have a need for it and it fell into my truck!!!! You can pick one up for under a $100. 00 easy or go to a big truck junk yard. Works a 1/2 impact with no problems!!!

What's the problem? 4 bolts, run the intake into the cab for fresh air, and run the line into a tank. :D Simple, right? :-laf

What you need help with?

I have a cheap system on my Jeep. The Jeep had a vacant spot where the factory AC would go. I did not use a York. Cheap AC units are $15 in the junkyard. On my Dodge I'm not giving up the factory AC. I considered the Kilby setup. Went with electric instead. I have the AirZenith. I think the AirZenith has a 60amp startup surge with 35amp continuous draw. It's mounted in the bed on the driver side in front of the tire with a splash shield I made.

I have a Viar under the Passenger seat part of the frame. My son has access to a shop so he fabricated two large angle irons which we bolted to the frame (after drilling) and then the Viar on its rubber cushions is bolted with the included very small bolts to the iron. Square D Pressure Switch is behind it and a 5 Gallon tank is under the bed in front of the wheel well. Strap Iron was used to fasten the tank. Intake Air Filter is under / in the rear passenger seat storage bin. Can provide more details if needed.

Mounted mine im my bed box, Viair 440C, woks well although it takes awile to air up the 37x13. 50's. Have a 165# cutout to help power the train horns.

Yes, but not while being driven. High engine rpms will destroy the typical wet kit. Most are not designed to go over 1000 rpm while under a load. Anyone building anything I'm not aware of? I'd think a feasible setup could be made off that idea... ... Like running a regular engine driven compressor off the transmission gear? Man, that give me an idea... ... .

Geno's new catalog (number 77) shows a On Board Air System

Here is a bit of news for those wanting a on board air system . ------------------>

I was at Geno's Garage this week picking up some more stuff for my trucks and Scott gave me an advance copy of their number 77 issue GENO'S GARAGE Catalog. Low and behold it has a complete PACBRAKE on-board Air System and optional Air Horn kit listed. The complete on board air system, (ie - the compressor, tank, wiring, fittings, mounting, airlines and misc. hardware), was less than $400. You can add the complete add on Air Horn kit for less than $120 more.

It doesn't show on their web site yet so they may not have it in stock just yet, but if you're interested I would give them a call. They have great service and good prices.

FWIW,

Bill

Ohhhhh, I'm all ears... . any more news, anyone? What is it? Electric, mechanical? Belt driven? Gerbils on a treadmill?

It's electric. It was a complete installation kit but it didn't mention any specs if my memory serves me correctly (since the catalog is in my shop).
