SlyBones,

I was aware of Jannetty's shield, but didn't know if it would work with the BHAF. But, after reading your reply, I decided to find out - ordered one yesterday. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Thanks,

Jay

Water problems?

Last weekend, I drove 200 miles thru that tropical depression... 50mph gusts, blinding rain, etc... loads of fun! Anyway, my Moparguy BHAF was nuthin' but dry!! Seems to me, the only downside to this masterpiece is having to take care when washing under the hood. Thanks, Moparguy!!! It's a fabulous find!

JGK,

Well I hope I did not cost you $50 or so. I am just spreading info I read earlier in this post. No first hand knowledge.

OK so what kind of material does K&N use for the socks they sell for the RE0880 filters. I think its some find of foam, 1/2 inch or so, does this sound about right. -- Hey DAWG-1 you got one, what is this stuff??? -- Will look for local sources and try different methods of bonding it. The idea would be to get material cut a square to the right length and width. Then wrap it around the filter and bond the two ends together. Hopefully to form a reusable, washable, sock for this thing.

couldn't stand it anymore and ordered one today

Stopped at the local Cummins shop and ordered a MoparGuy Filter (MGF) or Big HONKIN Air Filter (BHAF). Fall is here so I should have time to work on a airbox to shroud the thing from engine/turbo heat and figure out a way to feed air from the fender well (ala stock box), cowl (ala psychotty), and/or a ram air system I'm designing.

The Cummins parts guy asked what the filter was for and grinned when I pointed to the Dodge. He asked if it was for a horsepower gain. I told him it was to control the EGT produced by horsepower.

I'll report back as things progress.

guess I'll have to order the BHAF!

Alright, you guys are gonna make me order the BHAF, and then I'll have to make the Big Honkin' Heat Shield. Dammit, the last thing I need is another gov't project at work:rolleyes: ! Once I get the filter, it'll be time for the TIG to go to work!
