Did this last Wednesday. The original steer axle only had one kingpin retaining bolt per side. The new & improved axle has two. This truck pulls a 53 foot Peerless 'possum belly' chip trailer and grosses out at 105,500. After ~800,000 miles, things can get pretty loose up front.
Had to save the spindles, they were almost new. The driver side was frozen... . had to heat the old axle up red hot to break it free; the truck looked pretty cool on fire for a bit there.
Anyways, thought some of you might enjoy these pictures. That's the service oiler on the left with the other camera phone--he thought it was pretty wild. :-laf
One truck down... ... 8 more to go!!!
