Not for me We have a TDR member that lives in or near Stevensville.
I don't think to much about the bears, Black bears are like Dogs throw a rock at them and most times they leave. You can get an ugly one but most times they run off. I really dont fear Grizz either, It may sound bold but I can think of a lot of other ways to go out, that are FAR worse than meeting up with a Grizz with YOUR destruction on his mind.
I'll throw out another BOLD statement to have some arguments over. If you get surprised by any animal your a fool, YES!! I have been a fool. I use to put my ear-buds in and listen to music on my I-Pod riding Daisy down the trail.
Packing becomes truly a test of will after about the 10th 40 mile loop from camp with game for the processor to home to pick up re-supply for the camp. Keeping your wits about you is a MUST. Your packing a Supermarket for Grizz, they are the ones that im Leary of, they are pretty sneaky and LIGHTNING FAST!!
I watch these TV shows the one that I kind of like is Life Below 0, one of them named Eric lives in AK, it shows him constructing a Meat Pole. he uses a tractor to lash a tree to other trees about 12' high, and then it shows him standing next to his Moose meat on the pole. :-laf the camp dogs could reach that it couldn't have been 5' off the ground. We have a meat pole in camp just encase the pack string ain't. Its about 20' up the trees and the game is at least 15' off the ground, Grizz would have to be a pretty big one to reach that meat. If meat is in camp, SOMEONE IS UP AT THE FIRE RING. its just to dangerous to have meat in camp and nobody up. Its kind of a PITA for the packers to come in from a 15 hour stint in the saddle and see the meat pole full with a shotgun armed person happy to see you because as soon as the meat leaves the camp HE gets to hit the hay. While the meat is brought down the packers coffee up, chow down and lash the game to a new string of mules (even they get more rest that the packer) and back to the processor that is what hurts, a trip and half will take the starch out of anyone's shorts.
Sleep comes pretty easy at the home end, a Hot shower, some food, and soft bed for 6 or 7 hours and then back at it, if your REALLY lucky when you get back to camp with the re-supply the meat pole is empty!! Spend some time with the wife get some camp chores done, firewood, take care of the stock, Check gear maybe hear a shot and go to the kill site and help out and most time leave from there to head back to town and the processor and a re-supply for camp, with a return in the dark maybe 1 or 2 in the AM others really love me when I show up at that time RISE AND SHINE EVERYONE!! IM UP SO ARE YOU!! :-laf
