For vehicle recovery situations. And because its cool!

Okay I understand the cool part, but what kind of vechicle are you going to recover that needs a clevis with a breaking strength of 160,000+ lbs??

With that said I have a 10K lb shackle on my ATV winch cable, the only reason is that its easy to use with golves on... and it looks cool :D

And what if the president calls and says "Ryan, we have decided to raise the Titanic and we need your truck to do it. Can you help?" I would look awful foolish saying "uhhh, gee sir, I'd love to help but my clevis is only rated to 5000 lb". ;)

Anyways, I decided not to get it. I bid on this one instead. :)

160,000# is the weight of that mine truck that Dodge pulled with the new Cummins 600, so it would be useful for stunts like that!

 They pulled a mining truck with a 600?

yeah...

Here is what they say:

Pretty cool, eh?

I'll bet they got a running start with that strap acting like a bungee cord-maybe bounced a few times to get it rolling like Mel Gibson did in Lethal Weapon II when he pulled the house on stilts down with the Dually Chevy...

I would have expected you to buy a Big one. Ive got one like that except threaded pin in my shop right now. I carry around a 1" pin one in my truck with 30' of 1/2" chain. But dont forget, how ever big of a clevis you get, you will still be pulling using the 5/8" reese pin. Make sure its a good one, Ive broke them before.

I have one of these clevises, but mine is threaded. It rides around in my bed in my toolbox. I found it in an old rail yard, and thought it was cool. Weighs at least 30 pounds, and I have no idea what to do with it. But the "cool" and "that's freaking huge" factors are real high.

I have 4 similar size but they are "shackles" rather than clevices. Clevis has a pin go through that is not threaded. Shackle is threaded. When you stress a clevis it bends and the pin can come out making a flying iron projectile out of the clevis, pin, and whatever hooked to it. I saw a dozer one time that the pin came out and the cable and clevis hit the back with such force that it put a dent half way into the fuel tank on the back (about 20 inch dia circle 8 inches deep. It was a JD dozer and I don't know the thickness of the metal, But My Fiat Allis' tank is about 1/4" thick and baffled inside. Another 12 inches higher and it would have killed the operator. Shackels are much safer. mine are 1. 5" dia pins and rated at 25 ton. I also have a clevis that takes a 2 inch pin , but when in need something that big I wouldn't dare use it.

Where'd you get the 25 ton ones?
