Tabbed the KDP in my 97 this weekend. If you are thinking of doing it, go for it. Its really not that bad of a job.

It was only out about an eighth of an inch, but I was shocked at how easily it moved back in the hole with just a little tap from the hammer.

The TST instructions were very handy. THe only issue I had was they don't mention taking off the top radiator hose. I spent 1/2 an hour trying to work around it and finally just took it off.

any way to tell externally if the KDP will be an issue on a given truck? The more I read, the more concerned I get about my 99.

KDP

I have seen 12 so far myself rangeing from a 1990 to a 1999 model. The only reasonI have not seen more of them is because out of our 175 5. 9's that is all that I have taken down. But so far everyone of them that I have taken down have been coming out. I used the jig method on my personal truck, worked great, But at work I have just notice them as I take them apart. So far none have fallen out but they have been coming out that way!:D

I fixed mine this weekend also, actually I did on friday. Only took 90 min and mine was very solid. Probally wasn't in any danger but now I know it's ok. While I had it down, I took some measurments, and there is a way to tell if it's moved or not. But It really doesn't make sense to go that route. The fix is so easy (I highly recomend the drill fixture), it's truely ashame that anyone has to go through the problems associated with the displacement of the dowel pin.

TSRAM,

If your truck is subject to the malady please don't wait any longer to restrain the pin. No one here wants to hear another story about the damage that little thing did. The 'jig' method really is very easy to do and the peace of mind it affords is large.

An easy question if you should block your KDP is this, " Do I feel lucky"? This failure does not always happen to the other guy. Since doing this on my first gen. , I have peace of mind.

Is there a KDP jig floating around the southeast? I've heard of many just tabbing it. I do plan on keeping her for quite some time yet. Only 56k on a 99... I think she'll last a bit longer. Is there a downside to either method as far as longevity?
