About three weeks ago I installed the 0-16 psi electric fuel pressure gauge from Genos in the dash small item storage area. After installation the gauge read consistently low (8 psi at idle, 6-7 around town and even lower at higher power settings) and I rechecked the installation to be sure I had 12 volts to the gauge and the fuel sending unit hose at pre filter test port was on correctly.

After a trip to the dealer to have them check the pressures, the gauge was correct and my lift pump was failing. I had early warning so it was only a minor inconvenience and not a failure along the side of the highway. The '01 has 36,000 miles on it and this is the first warranty work done since new.

Great you caught it so soon Jim !!! :D I just ordered one from Geno's also. I also just had an ATS Stage IV transmission and a 2ndary pusher pump put in in Colorado. I'm sure I'll be calling you on the land line for info on how you installed the gauge if that's ok. I'm not much of a mechanic. I'm anxious to see how my lift pump is doing.

By the way,..... are you going to the Pardee this weekend?

In case you can't figure it out (bstory).

tandemranch I have a 99 as well. If you want to see the way I hooked mine up or just need some help let me know!

Always glad to help. :)

Preach on JM!!!!

No, seriously you are right. I have a buddy that just installed a FP gauge on his 01 with 50,000 miles and his read vacuum at idle. :--) You just can't say it enough... GET A FP GAUGE. Best $80 I ever spent.

just my . 02

gauge for fuel pressure

Hi Bill,

We haven't chatted since our Flume Trail ride last October. At that time you were going to upgrade your auto transmission and it sounds like you did. Great.

I would be glad to help with the fuel pressure gauge. Installation is not hard just kind of tight behind the dash with all the stuff crammed in there. The underhood stuff with the sending unit is easy as is putting the gauge in the small cubby hole in the dash. When you order the gauge ask for the cover plate for the cubby hole. I got the 0-16 psi gauge and sending unit.

I tied into the cigarette lighter power as it is very close to the gauge and eliminated one wire behind the dash. On my truck when the key is 'off' so is the power to the cigarette lighter.

From what I learned on this TDR website is that the lift pump is the weakest link in the fuel system. That is why I got a gauge.

I did not get registered for Party Pardee but I am registered for the Delta Century in Stockton in May. It is a good tandem ride on the levees with minimal traffic and no hills bigger than 20 feet of climbing. I will ride my solo bike, however that day. I am planning to ride 65 miles.

Just finished Dipricol 3 gauge install

Install Pictures

I finally have the gauges in, it turned out nice.

My pictures aren't so great but some of my Idea's turned out good.

I glued the 3 pod a-pillar mount to the OEM a-pillar cover after cutting out access. very solid. Used plastic weld epoxy, gives you 5 minutes from the time you mix but that was enough.

Used silicone rubber coated nylon (spark plug heat shield) from napa as a conduit. worked great.

Had a 18" braided SS fuel line made with a 90 degree elbow from the pre filter side of the fuel filter housing to the isolator with an extra test port pre filter.
