Cummins reliablity

Guy bought a 6.0, funny story

so I was dropping off a counter top to have it laminated, and they wanted me to pull up to the rear bay doors... cool...

back up to an open bay and notice that the bay next to me has a big ramp... might make it easier to unload. not that what I had was heavy by any means. I loaded it into the truck myself with ease, but what the heck, right?

so I had my driver's door open... just left it open... what's it hurting, right?

looking over my right shoulder, backing up the ramp, and all of a sudden it feels like I hit something or ran over something. couldn't figure it out because the ramp was clear...

then I look over to my left, and my door is opened way forward!!

there was a big stack of these huge 16ft pallates on the side of the ramp, and you guessed it... backed right into 'em w/ my door open. :{

did some hacking on the hinges to get the door to open/shut... lotsa air getting through now! :-laf

called my dodge guy up and he said he had a decent door w/ hinges he'd give me for $100...

and to my great surprise, the fender only has a slight scratch on it

so it coulda been a lot worse, but my ego took a pretty good hit as it happened in front of all the guys in the shop! LMAO!!

like I said... one of those days...

yeah, it was sorta like that... :(

funny thing is the door looks horrible, but the fender has two little scratches that you can hardly see.

and when I say horrible, I mean horrible... it wouldn't even close at first... a few minutes w/ the sawzall and moving the striker plate, and I got it to the point where it'll at least close... there's still about a 2" air gap along the bottom.

talk about embarassing

I did something simular several years ago, it really bites when you hurt your own truck doing something routine, especially when there are witnesses :)

I did that when I was a kid with my first car and not much money. Since then I don't back up with the door open unless I'm in an open field.

Jeff,

I didn't mention running the truck along a 3" dia steel/concrete pole last week...

it's a work truck, so I'm not too hung up on looks, but gotta have a door that seals! if it was purely cosmetic damage, I wouldn't even mess w/ it! LOL!

time to change you name to tommy, tommy boy

all i can think of is that scene in the movie

"What did you do??"

Gotta be one of the funniest scenes in the movie.

Don't feel bad... when it came time to take Christmas lights down in January, I figured why get a ladder? I'll just roll the truck back outta the garage a little bit and stand in the bed. Uh huh... . anyone know an easy way to fix a nice 'C' shaped notch in drywall? The door came out somewhat unharmed, scuff marks up and down the edge and a bent lip at the top. It's still there, a reminder to not be stupid next time.

drywall is cake... I cover pretty much every facet of remodeling (except counter top laminate! LOL!) and give my drywall work over just about ANYTHING!

if your torn drywall is in Plano, I'm just below you in Richardson and could take a look at it for ya if you want.
