One ton Light Strip on TailGate

Does anyone know where to get the light strip with the 3 lights on it that comes with all 1 tons, i would like to put it one my 3/4 ton

You could get the OEM one from the dealer, but you could get an aftermarket one alot cheaper. Can also be had in LED form as well - try Trucklite -they have a bunch of them. Get a part number and do an internet search using it- you'll find dealers that way unless you have a local truck (big rig) parts house nearby.

This is one of the few items I will suggest you buy from the dealer, cost is not bad, and the OEM set base is shaped to fit the tailgate. The aftermarket is made to go on a flat surface. Dealer price is about $8. more than aftermarket. You'll need to buy 4 screws from the hardware store. It fits like a glove!

55054823 is the light bar itself and 55054824 is the harness with the plugs for the lights---as listed on my original invoice!

When I bought mine at the local "stealer", the total cost was around $100 all said and done. They have one part number for the base, another for the wiring harness, and another for the bulb/lens assemblies (you need 3). They just snap into the base and 2 prongs fit into the plugs on the wiring harness.



After I got mine I noticed the bulb/lens assemblies could be had at NAPA, probably for a lot less.



You might try ordering the base and wiring harness from someplace like Mopar4Less and save a few $.

Yeah I like the light strip on the tailgate but am curious as to where it plugs in. Anyone know?

I got mine through my brother who's the parts manager at the local dealer... . and I'm in Canada... . so I don't think what I paid would help any of you all that much !



And it's supposed to plug in somewhere down by the license plate lights. I think (don't quote me on this) that the 3500's have an extra plug in their rear light harness for this... . I can tell you that 2500's dont. Per Evan A. Beck's suggestion I spliced it into one of my license plate lights. Couldn't find a connector to match the factory one-so I bought a 2 pin Weatherpack set from the local NAPA store, spliced 1 end onto the light bar wiring and the other into the RH license plate light. Works for me... and I can still remove the tailgate if I have to.



I didn't use the factory lights-I got Grote LED lights. Well worth the money-less current draw, longer life and TONS brighter than the stock ones. I really like 'em!

The light bar is a common junk yard item, about $10. There are also many light bars laying around on bent tailgates to be had for free after someone disconnects their 5th wheel trailer before dropping the tail gate. I got two that way, sent the extra to another TDR member. The base is specially shaped use a OEM one.

Okay I dug out my receipt that has the part numbers and suggested list prices:



light bar 55054823 $20. 46

wiring harness 55054824 $40. 84

red lights 55054819 $14. 19 (you'll need 3)



Yes it is expensive for the factory stuff, but when it's installed it at least looks factory.



The 2500's do not have any plugs in the wiring harness to attach to... the 3500's do because they have a different rear body harness. You'll have to tap the harness into the license plate lights, but use some kind of connector so that you can unplug it for tailgate removal.

The only other thing you'll need is 4 black annodized screws which are easily found.

I put the 3 light bar on my '93 3/4 ton. I found the light strip at a local big rig shop for around $12. Can't beat that.
