Fuel filter change 6.7 Cummins

Hi folks,

I have never posted in the past, but have been reading for some time. I bought a Mega Cab 2500, 4x4, 6. 7 with auto from Dishman Dodge and specifically Adam M. I live in central PA.

Great experience with these folks. I could not have matched the deal in my small town in central PA... Adam stayed on top of every aspect of the purchase from order to delivery. It took about 1 month from order to delivery to receive my new truck.

I have owned two Chevy Duramax, two 6. 0 Ford's and this is my second Cummins. My first Cummins had a 5. 9 and 4 speed auto. It was never in the right gear so I traded for a 6. 0. Not a good move!

The Cummins and Duramax are great powerplants, but the Cummins is smoother and stronger in my opinion and should last longer. Very, very quiet.

The Ford makes a good body, interior and transmission. The engines a dog. I test drove the new 6. 4 and this thing is going to tank ford. Poor passing power, take the cab of to work on it, poor fuel economy. Major recalls already.

The Chevy is strong competition for the Dodge considering the combination of Duramax and Allison. The Chevy also has a nice interior in this year model, but I don't like the look. Chevy also has all the nice amenities.

The Dodge (made in Mexico) is a good truck (I would not have been comfortable taking a truck made in the Missouri plant). The 6. 7 is smooth and the new transmission is very nice. They did cheap out this truck. From paint (orange peel) to interior amenities, to tires and rims. No auto lights, no climate control, cheap materials (this is with a Laramie package with all options). However the price is OK compared to the Chevy. OK it's cheap (not the engine and hopefully the transmission), but I can live with it.

The only issue I have had so far is it took a few attempts to start the truck one afternoon. Seemed like it was fuel starved, but cranked on the 4th attempt. Only happened once.

I would pay another $1-2k to have a nice paint job, and improved materials and features on the interior. I just don't understand why dodge does not offer these options in a higher end package. I guess only the accountants know.

Jeff,

I live in State College and had it delivered to a local dealer. Adam made all the arrangements. It cost $350 for vehicle prep. (clean, test drive, PA inpection, tax and tag) by the local dealer.

What did you think was Cheap on the truck? besides the paint

what color is yours? what do you mean no climate control and no auto lights?

I should be getting my 07. 5 laramie in the next few weeks

I agree the GM & Ford trucks leave Dodge far behind on interior trim quality and aesthetics. I don't find the Ram dash particularly attractive and I don't care for the hard plastic shell it's comprised of. Car & Driver did a comparo of all the major 1/2T trucks (GM Ford Dodge Toyo Nissan) and felt the Ram had the cheapest interior materials of them all.

But interiors aren't everything and the Ram is more truck than the others

Congrats on the new truck Johnr. So how did the dealership that took delivery act about the transaction?

My duramax interior looked nice when new... . but 2 dash pads later and the paint kept peeling even on the third one...

According to the Dodge website, climate control is a $0 dollar option (included with the Laramie package) that cannot be de-selected.

If you got the Laramie package, you should check with your dealer. Something's not right.

Hmmm... I'm thinking a REAL TRUCK deserves a REAL TRUCK PAINT: Imron. Actually, having said that, I thought my current and previous trucks' paint jobs were pretty good. Of course, the 1999 model years, according to CR, were among the best overall quality of all 2G rams, FWIW.

I am a bit surprised by the paint comment. I thought the paint on my 2004 was the best paint job I had ever had on a Dodge. Almost three years later and I am still happy with it. In my previous job, I bought trucks from all three and thought it was a good or better than anything else I had looked at. I bought some 2005 Ford's that had a number of paint runs on the tailgate(s).

Interiors are a taste thing. I was never much of a fan of the of the old Super Duty interior. I am not sold on the "new" Super Duty interior and may not need to be, as I don't like the exterior or the 6. 4.

The new GM interior in nice but not ground breaking. I have a new style half-ton at the company I work for and it has good and bad points. The smaller amount of hard plastic vs the Dodge is nice but the dash itself isn't all that awe inspiring.

Again, mostly a taste issue.

Johnr

Let me get this straight, you want a truck with climate control, auto lights, auto set seats, radio, steering wheel, and butt wipe, hmmm souds more like a Rolls or a Maybach, remeber this IS a TRUCK, yes a very expensive truck but 1 that will haul lots and lotsOo.

Fred

Hi guys,

I will answer all the questions here.

When I say climate control I mean automatic climate control and automatic headlights. The Laramie package states dual climate control but they leave off the automatic portion. No auto on/off headlights. I forgot how to do it. I haven't turned on or off headlights since my last Dodge 3 years ago!

And yes Fred I would like those amenities they cost basically nothing and all the competition has them, but as I said I can live with it no problem. Butt wipe sounds good, can you buy aftermarket?

Just for the record I'm not bashing my new baby. Without some complaints they will not improve. .

My truck is silver and if painted by a robot it needs a software upgrade.

It's only been a week but the truck rides better than all of the other brands I have owned.

As I stated up front I bought my truck based on my reading from this site. My local dealers have small town mentality(I like small towns by the way, just not small town car salesmen) and think they can get away with not dealing and poor service. . No way, I took my business to Dishman and Adam and am happy for it. The local guys did not like, it but it worked out fine. They got some money, and if they had crap for brains they could have gotten my service but oh well.

Happy trucking to all!!!

Mine will have the H package. it has dual climate control. I test drove the new chevrolet and my head hit the headliner and I am only 6'2" tall

i have a 1995 Diesel chevy now with almost 300k on it I love it but what Like about the dodge is the Megacab and that is what sold me on the truck. it's hard for me to buckle my 2 year on in his car seat in my Suburban and my wife's Expedition which btw the seats suck in on long trips thats why I did not go Ford the Megacab was the answer for me. I am still waiting for my truck to come in. I am glad the truck wont have auto head lamps my Friends chevrolet has that and it shines on my neighbors bedroom window and they complain about it. I dont care for the cheesy wood looking trim with no option for the silver trim on the laramie H package. I also dont like the way the new tail lights look i think it looks like a kids rice rider but i was after the large interior and the cummins engine

No auto on/off headlights. I forgot how to do it. I haven't turned on or off headlights since my last Dodge 3 years ago!

John,

Actually you can have the lights auto on (it's a Canadian/Fleet option) it has to be set by your dealer another ECM item like the High Idle feature described elsewhere here. (See Daytime running lights page 131 of your 2007 Owners manual)

I just had to add a few cents here... someone posted they would like to see Imron paint on these trucks... .

So would I but I'm a realist about this... . this epoxy paint is so hard on equipment and people during the spraying and drying process I don't think you could afford to put it on anything but custom cars and air planes... .

My BIL just bought some for his plane... . one box of primer and color coat about enough to paint 1/2 of a truck was $1200 and they have decided to wear bunny suits and full respirators during the painting process... . My BIL and his 2 boys are pilots, he used to be a pilot of a Lear for 20 years and one of his boys fly MD80's, the other choppers for logging..... all have A&P ratings

The $1200 was the best deal they could get for Imron and they looked hard... . Would it be nice... . yea it would but out of the question. . BTW Imron will chip as bad as any other paint.....

Hope this helps...

cheap??? nothing in my 07 looks cheap to me. everthing looks nice and very well built. especially the door panels. my chevey had cheap flimsy dash and cheap looking door panels. this is just my opinoun, but dodge is first rate to me . this is my 4th one and they keep getting better and better
