I only seem to have one tire spinning, do we have open rear ends, or limited slip? Are there rebuild kits? cost? anyone mess with changing clutches?

I have never changed the rear end oil and plan on doing so when I get some free time, my boss said there is a additive I should add when filling, any one know about this?

The axles were available with limited slip option. If you have one wheel spinning you have an open diff or a wore out LS. :)

Yeah deffinently sucks not being able to fully accelerate untill fourth gear  I didn't know how sweet a posi is untill I got my 96. I'm lookin for a dana 80 with limited slip for mine until then I keep the hubs locked in, in case anyone wants to try me :D .

There must be no better feeling than smoking some snob in a convertible mercedes while his hottie laughs at him and gives you the thumbs up. My truck is slow I live vicariously through others realities.

I just priced a dana posi for my 91 with a dana 70. $500 parts, $400 labor. I was originally wanting ARB air lockers front & rear, but thats $2100 parts and ??? labor. Still trying to figure out how to get that past the wifey! :)

I popped off the rear cover- open rear, who the heck wants a 4x4 with a open rear end, so happy to own a plow truck with one tire spinning. Put my plow on the other day and the truck would not move without 4x4. I have many junk yards in the area, could I snag a limited or a posi off another vehicle and bolt it to mine?

That would work, but, you are buying used stuff and there is no guarantee it will be good or last. If you swap the guts you will more than likely have to go thru the process of setting up the gears again.

Les Schwab had the rebuiltunits available for about $500 at one time. Check around and see what the price is for one and but used accordingly. I would suspect you will have a hard time just buying the LSD and not the whole axle.
